[edit] Varieties

There are many different flavours of Five Alive and it is a popular drink; many people buy it. It is mainly sold in the United Kingdom.

[edit] Availability

Once widely available in the U.S., it is now very difficult to find. Five Alive is, however, still widely distributed in Canada and in the UK, as a bottled or canned drink, also in 250 ml cartons suitable for vending machines or as a frozen concentrate.

[edit] Nutritional information

Five Alive is not a significant source of saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, fibre, vitamin A, calcium, or iron. Five Alive contains 110 calories and 27 grams of sugar per 240 mL. U.S. Five Alive containers depict five fruits on the label, but is only 41% fruit juice, listing high fructose corn syrup as its main ingredient after filtered water.[1] In the United Kingdom, quantitative ingredient labeling is mandatory; labels there show that U.K. Five Alive contains only 9% fruit juice[2]

[edit] References In Popular Culture

Canadian alternative rock band Barenaked Ladies recorded a song for their 1989 demo tape Buck Naked called Careless in which there was a line where they sang "What are the five fruits in Five Alive juice?". During their live performances from that period they often responded to the question with either "apples, cheese, broccoli, pimento, and piglet" or "apples, cheese, broccoli, pimento, and blood."

On a skit for Saturday Night Live, guest host Claire Danes, along with regulars Cheri Oteri and Ana Gasteyer played a group of Southern ladies on their first trip to France. When asked what beverage they would like to order, Cheri Oteri's character asked, "Do y'all have Five Alive?"
