[edit] The Tamaraw and Team colors
The Tamaraw is the mascot of every FEU athletic team, hence, is the pet name of every FEU student (Tams). Known scientifically as “Bubalus mindorensis”, it is a rare animal found only in the island of Mindoro. The Tamaraw is one of the most intelligent, pugnacious, and aggressive of Philippine animal species.[1]The University colors are green and gold. Gold represents the golden opportunity for the University to serve the youth and for her alumni to serve the country. Green is for hope, representing the founder’s "fair hope of the fatherland."
===Behind the Tamaraw logo=== It was then said that a former cartoonist of The Advocate, the official student publication of Far Eastern University, Manila,[2][3] and proclaimed (by the Cultural Center of the Philippines or CCP) Centennial Artist in 1998,[3] Severino "Nonoy" Marcelo (1939-2002), created the Tamaraw logo, which is now used by University athletes to include in their uniforms whenever they compete.
[edit] Basketball
The FEU Tamaraws won the first men's (1938-1939) and women's (1950-1951) basketball tournament in the UAAP. The team ranks 1st in the seniors division in terms of UAAP basketball championships with 19 and third in terms of (juniors, women's, and men's basketball championships combined, including the awarding of the men's basketball championship due to technicalities committed by the De La Salle Green Archers, next to the UE Red Warriors (2nd) and UST Growling Tigers (1st).

[edit] Basketball Rivals
- UE Red Warriors, involved in the previous "Battle of the East", both the FEU and UE basketball teams dominate in said UAAP event from the 1950's up to the late 1980's, and also rivals in terms of number of championships won in UAAP basketball history.
- De La Salle Green Archers, the rivalry was sparked when the 1991 Final when La Salle's final game win was protested by the FEU after a Green Archer was admitted into the playing court after being disqualified. The UAAP Board upheld the protest and ordered the replay. La Salle did not show up, claiming to have won legitimately, and FEU was awarded the trophy. La Salle then had their victory parade pass through all UAAP schools - when they passed through the FEU campus, the motorcade was bombarded with debris. La Salle had to give up another trophy to FEU in 2004, when a two Green Archers were found to have falsified documents, thus awarding FEU, their Finals opponent, the trophy.[4]
