[edit] British monarchy
I was browsing the FAs and noticed a large number of British monarchs that were featured. I thought it might be worthy of being a featured topic and sure enough, the root article of British monarchy was featured as well. All articles listed above are FA. --Hemlock Martinis 07:32, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think you would have to include Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom as the current monarch, but that is not currently a GA.-gadfium 08:58, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose You can't just cherry-pick the best articles and the root article is FARC-bait.--Rmky87 12:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose - Your topic is missing far too many relevant articles. You should try a smaller topic, like a user did with Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Stuart monarchs. --Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 17:23, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. Arctic Gnome is right. You should really aim for featuring a topic on one of the royal houses, such as Stuart or Hanover. See Wikipedia:Featured topic criteria for guidelines on the completeness of topics.--Pharos 03:53, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Belarus
Main page | Articles |
Belarus | Flag of Belarus - My Belarusy - National emblem of Belarus - Hero of Belarus - Belarusian Republican Youth Union |
The reason why I am doing this nomination is that while getting very good articles on a country is article; with the problems Belarus faces, it would be very hard to get all of these articles to look good and stay in our policies. I pray that I am able to add to this list soon, but I hope yall are happy. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:16, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Comment. Unfortunately, this seems to fail Wikipedia:Featured topic criteria #1 — a "well-defined topical scope that does not arbitrarily exclude items". For a topic as broad as an entire country, we really should have articles like "history of", "government of" and "geography of" at least. I suggest a more modest goal for now: National symbols of Belarus. If you can write a GA on that subject, the FT could include Flag of Belarus, My Belarusy and National emblem of Belarus.--Pharos 05:50, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I included as much as I have personally done; I am sending the article about the national constitution to GAC right now and I am working up the article on capital punishment in the country and seeing if that is good enough to become GA. If I can be honest, I was slightly confused on how to nominate stuff for this, but I decided to give it a shot anyways. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 06:18, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, the idea behind Featured Topics is less "here is an impressive list of good and featured articles in some way related to this subject" (and your work on these many articles is certainly impressive) than "here is a collection of good and featured articles that cover all the basics of this subject". So it is inherently more difficult to do an FT on a "big" topic, because a lot of weighty articles must be dealt with. It can be done though; see the Solar System FT. But for now I'd recommend just pursuing a National symbols of Belarus topic, which would require just one more GA article to be completed.--Pharos 07:09, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

- Oppose. If Belarus is indeed your main article, the topic has gaping holes the size of Grand Canyon. Circeus 14:29, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Object — History of Belarus, Politics of Belarus, Administrative divisions of Belarus, Geography of Belarus, Economy of Belarus, Demographics of Belarus, and Culture of Belarus are huge omissions. Pagrashtak 18:33, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose - Not only is it missing several major articles, per Pagrashtak; it includes some minor articles that belong in a subtopic. --Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 18:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Comment - If this was renamed "symbols of Belarus", IMHO it might make more sense.--Estrellador* 21:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose - Large holes for a featured topic about Belarus, recommend the previous suggestions to create and get to GA a "national symbols of Belarus" article, and renominate with that as the lead, and with Flag of Belarus - My Belarusy - National emblem of Belarus as the subarticles, perhaps Hero of Belarus as well. --PresN 22:54, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I like the "national symbols of Belarus" idea, that could work, though it would still need a bit of work first. --Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 15:51, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose per above; my main points of arugment have been nicely addressed. The topic is missing many key articles. -- Phoenix2 (holla) 20:05, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
