[edit] Future of the line

What will happen to this spur line when the Eurostars run to St Pancras and Kings Cross?

Will the line be used for the any domestic trains to Waterloo?--Screen42 23:42, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

No - the spur will be kept (possible diversion and freight usages). Passenger services haven't been outlined in the CTRL DS services that are going to happen. Also passenger services are largely impractical on this short line as CTRL phase 1 is accessed by 3 lines from the Ashford area (ie Marshlink, Kent Coast and Thannet via Canterbury). These lines already go to the existing London termini (ie London Bridge and beyond, Blackfrias and Victoria) via the other routes. the CTRL DS services are going to St Pancras so have to go on the CTRL phase 2 (and they all want to go to Ebbsfleet, just beyond the join of this short line). After Eurostar switches to St Pancras, Waterloo Int is to be abandoned, probably (its not decided yet) to the overstretched SWT services, rendering the link off the Chatham main line onto the SW main line redundant. No one (ie commuters from Kent) want to go to waterloo when the existing termi are more centrally located to where they want to go and waterloo is already massively over crowed (looks like its about to get a swath of platform extensions - i think its the fasted growing part of the commuter network. [edit] Name

Is there a better name for this article, because currently its talking about the ex LCDR line from Fawkham junction to Gravesend as well as the Current CTRL link from the Chatham main line (at Fawkham junction) to Southfleet junction (with the CTRL) - the only "name" i can think of is its 5 letter (S04XX) code from Network Rail's rules of the route (i can't remember the exact nubmer, could find it). Ideas anyone? Pickle 15:14, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Line Diagram

Just out of interest, who designs the track diagrams? They are not always that clear! They are seem to run top to bottom, they need to be more flexible in design.--Screen42 20:39, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

The tags are in the wrong place, Fawkham junction is in the wrong place too!!--Screen42 20:41, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Who - anyone!
How - WP:TRAIL
Actually it takes a bit of a knack, and the system is not perfect. I got into it when they first imported the code from germany, and new icons and more columsn have since been added, enabling a more realistic display to be made. Pickle 21:22, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I've had another go thanks to the advent of stuff like HBHF, HLUECKE, and BS5 which we didn't have beofre. It still isn't right as it dosen't show the start CTRL stage 2 correctly as there is no tunnel entranc eat 90 degrees (or 45 degrees). Pickle 21:41, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
