The Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand (FTAANZ) is the Australian and Kiwi member of FLO International, which unites 23 Fairtrade producer and labelling initiatives across Europe, Asia, Latin America, North America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The organisation is also member of the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT).

Through its members, and a small secretariat, the FTAANZ seeks to increase awareness of fair trade; help facilitate and coordinate fair trade activities; assist producers from developing countries, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, to access Australian and New Zealand markets; and establish a regional organisation to manage Fairtrade certification and labelling.[1] In both countries, FTAANZ works closely with Oxfam CAA and Oxfam NZ.

The first products bearing the Fairtrade Certification Mark, which guarantees a better deal to disadvantaged producers in the developing world, were sold in Australia and New Zealand starting October 2003. There are currently several products bearing the Mark on sale in Australia and New Zealand: coffee, tea, chocolate and cocoa.

In New Zealand, retails sales of Fairtrade products have surged by more than 400 per cent in the past year to be worth about $4 million. Fairtrade coffee accounts for about 90 per cent those sales. It also makes up about 2 per cent of the total coffee market after only three years on the scene. In New Zealand, 22 companies are now licensed to carry the Fairtrade Certification Mark.[2]
