The Gunpowder Plot: Exploding The Legend

The Gunpowder Plot: Exploding The Legend was a British television show where Richard Hammond tried to re-create the Gunpowder Plot where Guy Fawkes attempted to blow-up the Houses of Parliament.
First aired on the ITV Network in 2005, this programme centred around a reconstruction of the Houses of Parliament (not based on the current ones as they were not built at the time of the Gunpowder Plot), built using similar methods wherever possible. This was stocked with dummies representing the members and the king and then blown up. The programme was made to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the plot.
The programme answered the question of whether the plot would have actually worked: not only would have the Houses of Parliament been completely obliterated, but most of the windows in nearby Westminster Abbey would have shattered from the sheer force of the explosion.
