Expatriate is an indie rock band based in Australia. The band formed in Sydney, Australia in 2005, and currently consists of vocalist Ben King, drummer Chris Kollias, keyboardist Damian Press and bassist David Molland.

Expatriate started out in 2005, in Sydney, Australia. Forming with Indonesian raised Ben King in vocals, Damien Press as keyboardist, David Molland on bass and drummer and percusionist Chris Kollias. They recorded their first EP in Ginsberg Studios, which is in their Petersham Headquarters, spending weeks mixing the tracks and creating the many layers that is their trademark. Entitled 'Lovers Ie Strange' the five-track EP (and 'that' cover photo) was released on October 31, 2005. The first single "The Spaces Between", spent six weeks on high rotation on national broadcaster Triple J. Expatriate ended the year of 2005 with a performance at the Homebake Festival in Sydney on the Dome stage.
At the close of 2005 the band had toured the nation three times. The second single off the EP 'Killer Kat' gained high rotation on Triple J. A national headline tour (their first) took place in February that sold out. A quick trip overseas in March to London, Toronto, NYC, Los Angeles and Austin brought the band to the attention of many upon hearing their music, Jim Kerr personally invited the band to support Simple Minds on the Australian leg of their world tour during May. July and August saw Expatriate head off to Seattle to record their debut album with producer John Goodmanson (Death Cab for Cutie, Blonde Redhead, Wu Tang Clan) This was followed by a tour of Los Angeles and London before heading back to Australia for a seven-week national tour with Something for Kate. They have since toured with Powderfinger, Silverchair, Editors, Interpol and The Cops among others.
Expatriate have gained recognition through the use of their song "The Spaces Between", which has featured in the advertising campaign for Fox Sports and the Domestic Cricket Competition in Australia. The song also features on the soundtrack for EA Sports Rugby 08
They are currently writing their second album.
