Gene is a common (masculine) first name that comes from the Greek genes (Greek- ευγενής, "noble", literally "well-born"). The name shares a root with the word genics. Variants include gène (French), gen (German, Romanian), genio (Italian, Spanish), jan (Persian: اوژن), vhen (Ukrainian: Євген), vgeniy (Russian: Евгений), geni (Bulgarian: Евгени), and Gene. The feminine variant is genia.
