[edit] Welcome, and thanks for your explanation

Hi, and welcome to the Wikipedia. You have a point, I provided as my reason for deleting strongly the fact that a lot of new or suspicious accounts voted to keep, and that isn't a good enough reason. In fact, I didn't provide any other reason. This article seemed like many other vanity articles I've seen, and new accounts that do nothing apart from voting on a VfD page are met with suspicion by many people, including me. I see that the target web site has an Alexa rank of 17,165, which is notable enough for me to change my vote to a keep. I'm willing to admit to my mistakes, especially when I make so many myself.

Yes, I can see how new users can find it discouraging, being a newcomer myself (If you read my talk page, you will note that one of my first "major" edits turned out to be a huge mistake—Mallorean/Malloreon). However, things would be a lot easier for everyone involved if they took a little time to read some of Wikipedia's welcome messages before they post. If I seem elitist, it's only because I`ve seen enough vanity articles receive "suspicious" votes for me to instantly turn up the heat when I see one receiving what looks to be cookie cutter votes from brand new accounts.

I hope you can understand my own (cynical) position in this. I have seen enough VfD vote flooding by anonymous accounts and new users to be suspicious when I see another one. I hope you stay on Wikipedia, and perhaps help me with my own edits of David Eddings articles. I think you are a bigger fan of him than me, however. I only like the books that feature Garion. I tried The Elenium and The Tamuli, but didn't like them at all.

Enough rambling from me. Hope to see more of you on Wikipedia!

No problem. Please take some time to read that VfD again and understand why some of us viewed the voting with suspicion. Kickstart70 apparently asked registered people to vote, but that resulted in a whole swack of people registering, and then voting, without realising that doing just that is just as bad as doing an anonymous vote. Sorry, I'm still a little annoyed about that, and I hope you understand why.

Nonetheless, please take your time to read some of the following articles (taken right off my own welcome message):

[edit] Fantasy books

hahaha... I got all worked up about the VfD that I forgot to even write about the fantasy books. My own favourite fantasy authors include R.A. Salvatore, Raymond E. Feist, Piers Anthony, Christopher Stasheff, and Terry Brooks. My favourite books among these are usually not as known as their "main works", such as Feist's collobaration with Janny Wurts, The Empire series, Brooks' Magic Kingdom of Landover series, or Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality.

David Eddings remains my favourite, and since I read his books during my formative years, I think my entire outlook on life (not to mention my irritating sarcasm) came from good ol' David Eddings. That's probably why I've read his same books year after year. And I agree that The Elenium and The Tamuli were virtual copies of his more famous "Garion" books ("Alorns!"/"Elenes!"). I have a similar complaint about Piers Anthony and his habit of documenting generation after generation after generation of characters.

[edit] Edit summaries

Edit summaries can't be edited or added after the fact. Sorry. -- Cyrius| 04:17, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User Friendly and Greg

Thanks for the note. I spend most of my Wikipedia time doing similar routine 'housekeeping' edits. UF popped up in my Watchlist, and I noticed Greg doing newpages patrol. Niteowlneils 23:49, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User Friendly Characters or User Friendly characters?

Hello Epideme. Shouldn't it be User Friendly characters instead of User Friendly characters? Have a look at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization). --Kio 02:50, 2005 Apr 30 (UTC)

[edit] Raymond E. Feist articles

Hello,

While searching around the "What links here" list attached to the Raymond E. Feist article looking for other Wikipedias who may be fans, I found you. Currently I am working on expanding the related articles of the Riftwar books, but there is a lot of ground to cover with 20 books to look through. I am hoping to gather other editors who may be willing to spend a little time to help out. There are articles which need expanding and clean-up, and I don't think I can do it alone.

The current articles are (red links to be started): The series articles:

Other articles:

And there is probably more that I haven't even thought of yet, which I am hoping you might.

This message has been sent to AbsoluteZero, Alkanen, Deathphoenix, El Pollo Diablo, Epideme, Painbearer, and SM247.
