[edit] The Music Department

Enterprise High School is known for its marching and concert bands, which have been directed by Dan Neece since the 1980s. Neece also directs the “Starship” program, a pop-oriented music program which gives well-known performances in Redding and elsewhere. The music department also features a choir program directed by Deborah Divine. Under her direction the choirs in the traditional choral program have received "Superior Ratings" for twenty consecutive years. Enterprise is also the home of the award winning vocal jazz choir "T.B.A." This fine ensemble has won numerous awards in competition over the years and was recognized by Down Beat magazine in 2003 as the top Student Vocal Jazz Group of the year. Enterprise is also the home of the "Victorian Dinner Celebration" now in its 19th year of sold-out performances, which is modeled after Shasta High School's Madrigal dinner. This original dinner/play set in a Victorian Christmas holiday venue offers audience members an unforgettable evening of comedy, delicious food, and beautiful vocal and instrumental music. Both Neece and Divine have been recognized as the California Music Educator Association (CMEA) "Educator-Of-The-Year" in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

[edit] Sports

The mascot of Enterprise high school is the Hornet. Enterprise High School has a variety of sports, including football and basketball. Enterprise has two rivals, Shasta and Foothill (Redding's other major high schools). For many years students from Shasta, Enterprise and Foothill High Schools vandalized each other’s schools before football and basketball games, but the administrations have been cracking down on this in recent years, beginning in 2002. Other successful programs at Enterprise include skiing and swimming. The Cross Country and Track & Field programs have sent the most athletes onto 4 year universities than any sport at Enterprise. Athletes such as Kenny Frank (University of Arizona), Jennifer James (Cal State University, Chico), David Nichols (Cal State University, Sacramento), Bryce Lighthall (Cal State University, Fullerton), and Lindsey Kirchman (University of Washington) have all made major contributions representing Enterprise High School. Ryan O'Callaghan, now a member of the NFL's New England Patriots, is an Enterprise alumn. He played college football at UC Berkeley. Another former Hornet, Brody Angley, will be entering his senior year of eligibility, in 2007-2008, at Santa Clara University, where he is the basketball team's starting point guard. Other Hornets who have played sports at four-year universities include: Tony Cooper (wrestling), Eric Webster (CSU, Humboldt - Soccer), Chris Thomas (UC Davis - Football), Mike Ruffell (UC Davis - Track and Field), Jeff Dennis (Air Force Academy and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - football and baseball), Marcus Adcock (San Francisco State - basketball) - all graduated in 1997 - Richie Clayton (Sacramento State - football), Jaime Berkowitz (UC Berkeley - golf) and Orben Frederick (St. Mary's College - Baseball). Also there is Domenic D'Acquisto who is an outstanding track and cross country runner. And there is kelsey moynahan who broke the school record for the pole vault. And there is jovon cunningham who is a stud at the triple jump.

[edit] Riverbowl

Every October, Enterprise and their main rivals, Shasta, play in a celebrated game called the Riverbowl. The Hornets and the Wolves have been playing for the bowl for 15 years. After Enterprise winning the Riverbowl every year, Shasta finally took the Riverbowl in 2005. However, Enterprise won the Riverbowl back on October 13, 2006 with a destructive score of 42-0. On October 12, 2007, a great and close game was played with the conclusion of Shasta winning the Riverbowl back with a score of 17-24. The overall score of wins for the last 15 years is 12-3, with Enterprise in the lead.
