[edit] History

The town began as a trading post established by Manuel Agustín Calvillo in 1759 in the Sauz de los Macías as Villa Encarnación. Its name was later changed to honor General Porfirio Díaz, who later went on to become the president of Mexico, for his triumphs during the French intervention in Mexico.

[edit] Geographical description

The scenery from there is charming. Mountains nestle this sleepy town and ranches can be found on its outskirts. The houses are made of adobe. The houses tend to be large commonly with a hidden backyard or garden somewhere in the house. The roads are made of stone and some roads are very steep, mimicking those of San Francisco. On every road there is metal bumps (called bolitos) to prevent drivers in that town from driving too fast. On many corners, there are many abarrrote stores. Abarrote means "grocery" in Spanish. These stores have a front counter devoted mainly to junk food and sweets with a back room that supplies you with basic cooking needs.

[edit] Cultural description

There are many delicious restaurants in this one little village. As you are entering the city from one of its entrances, almost immediately you encounter a restaurant that specializes in seafood. The most famous taco stand in La Chona is called El Cunado. It is a favorite eatery of the locals.[citation needed] It is particularly notable for its tacos de al pastor. "Al pastor" is pork with onions and cilantro. They ask if you want the salsa on it already or not, They have a small condiments tray where you can grab some crisp cucumbers and then sit down with a chilled soft drink. El Cunado is closed on Tuesdays and only open at night.

In the center of Encarnacion de Diaz is the main square, called by everyone the plaza. Here, is a small park, with benches and fountains and gardens. In the plaza, which towers above everything else, is an old church, possibly built a little after the time of the Spaniards. It has two towers with a clock face on each one. People not only come here for mass, but to worship the patron saint of Encarnacion de Diaz, the Santo Nino of Atocha. Inside this church is a shrine to the Nino. Lining the plaza is many shops, music shops, shops with clothes for communions or bapitisms, and a store with exquisitely beautiful and relatively cheap bracelets. There is a currency exchange in the plaza. There is a hotel in the plaza. There are also buses to neighboring towns. Encarnacion de Diaz is only a half hour drive to Aguascalientes, where they have a great interactive museum and an IMAX theatre.

In 2007 Encarnacion de Diaz face a fast change entrpreneurs from La chona settled some jeans factorys creating more jobs and built some commercial centers plenty of shop stores besides the main highway where arrive a lot of people to buy.
