EMMA - the Ethnic Multicultural Media Academy (Awards) - was founded in 1997 by Bobby Syed. The first award presentation took place in 1998 at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London and was hosted by TV presenterLisa Aziz and journalist/broadcaster Darcus Howe.

According to Bobby Syed: "EMMA seeks to promote diversity within the media industry by publicly recognising the levels of excellence achieved by the multicultural community, and the qualities that each ethnic group brings to the professional and commercial success of the UK as a whole."

"EMMA Awards has identified Humanitarian and Multicultural contribution by many celebrities and broadcasters, who express extreme power in defining the world we live in, and recognise as well as promote social responsibility and social cohesion against a back-drop of racial or religious devide. Metropolitan and Cosmopolitan lifestyle is the natural evoluationery process of our Multicultural society in every major city in the world with their own minority groups"

In 2000, Nelson Mandela received EMMA's Lifetime Achievement award.

The patrons of the Ethnic Multicultural Media Academy (Awards) include Sir Trevor McDonald OBE, Dame Anita Roddick (Late), Donald Woods CBE (Late), Sir G.K NOON, Lord Desai, Lord Ouseley, Darcus Howe and Jonathan Dimbleby. Who all backed EMMA since 1998 start.

Important information: The EMMA Awards information page has been violated in the past since November 2006 by right wing Fascists from Poland and other European countries; with the rise of the BNP successes in Multicultural London (GLA Election), we had experienced racists comments that would warrant a libel case if we were able to identify the racists who do abuse this free service on wikipedia! The under current of racism is still present hence their obvious success.

EMMA stands for tolerance and harmony amongst all ethnic groups, regardless of race, creed or religion, against a back-drop of growing racial, cultural and religious division worldwide. We do not apologise for our work toward social responsibilty and social cohesion fighting all evil.
