Emily Gertz is an American journalist and editor based in New York City, specializing in online news and environmental topics. Her work includes ongoing contributions to Grist, the environmental news magazine.[1][2] She was the lead editor and contributor to the March 2008 Grist series "The Corps of the Matter: the Army Corps and the Mississippi River"[3] which also featured work by journalist Michael Grunwald, science writer Patrick Di Justo, and photographer Mark Hirsch. Gertz has also contributed to Plenty and Dwell.

In the late 1990s, Gertz was producer for environmental news at OregonLive, the web site of The Oregonian, Oregon's largest newspaper. She was New Media & Technologies Manager at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts from 2001-2002, and from 2002-2003, Senior Web Producer for SpaFinder Magazine. [4]

Gertz was a columnist and contributor to the environmental website Worldchanging from 2004 to 2007, writing on a broad array of topics. She contributed several sections to the project's book Worldchanging: A User's Guide for the 21st Century,[5], and was the publication's Interim Managing Editor from August to November 2007.[6]
