Firstly, it is highly against WP policy to recreate Associated Press articles, especially word for word with opinion in. Secondly, Maria Capovilla died yesterday, making Bolden the oldest recognised person in the world. As such, it seems to make sense to focus on that within the article, and not the fact that she was once thought to be, when she was stripped of this title retroactively. The current title is more important, more relevant, and should be emphasised within the first paragraph. Please discuss any further changes on these sections, and please do not just revert everything without any comment or discussion. Jdcooper 16:01, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Let's wait until Guinness adds her to their website again. Until that time, we can only hint as to why they would once again give her the title (and having accepted once, the only reasons not to would be if a new case emerged or if new evidence to the contrary has emerged...neither scenario has happened).68.219.137.236 00:32, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] POV editing

Mis-labeling edits that one doesn't agree with as 'vandalism' is in violation of Wikipedia policy. 68.219.137.236 00:30, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] On Conditional Statements (To Drwho 1975)

  • I am happy with that compromise as well, as it seems quite likely that she may become the 9th oldest, and that is information specific to her, whereas the Jeanne Calment-related statement is outlandish, and highly unlikely. However, someone other than me will probably remove that at some point, as happened on the María Capovilla article. Jdcooper 13:22, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Kewel. You realize I'm going to want to move the next person once she reaches 9th oldest. I realize the 6 year thing for Jean Clement was a stretch but I'm trying to add some fun to wikipedia. You realize that Gerald Ford prediction has been on there ever since Reagan died. About 2 years.--Dr who1975 21:05, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Dr Who: Please slow down. You are making a mess of a lot of things. For example, above, you just misspelled 'Jeanne Calment.' You mis-dated the date that Jeanne passed the Izumi claim (Oct 17 1995, not Oct 4 1995). In longevity records, tie goes to the person who gets there first (so to break the record, you have to go one more day).

Also, this is an 'encyclopedia.' 'Adding some fun' is not right...you can go have fun by playing bumper cars. Messing up the work of others is not 'fun.'

I agree that Elizabeth Bolden is close to Kamato Hongo, but let's not make this a 'crystal ball.' Just in the past few weeks, we've seen several 'predictions' fall short: Camille Loiseau ('going to be 115'), Maria Capovilla ('going to be 117,') Gulia Sani Casagli ('age 113'). In fact, all of them died before reaching the mark.→ R Young {yakłtalk} 11:57, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

There's a precedent for this on Gerlad Ford's page. Why do you care about talking to me about things now... you didn;t before.--Dr who1975 05:51, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Did you use a different IP address? Also, I could make a LONG list of mistakes you've made, but why bother? I think we should live each day as it comes. To try to predict when someone will still be alive makes this a 'contest' and forgets the value of living for today. Also, with the Gerald Ford thing, they only tend to do that when the record is close. Ok, so Sept 30 2006 is close. 2013 is not.131.96.70.164 23:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Todays revert to an older version of the article

I am about to revert the changes made today by IP .... Although it includes some new information, it also reverts to an older layout of the article. This older layout is of inferior standard. Information does not follow a logical path, is not grouped with similiar information, information is repeated and all this makes it harder to read. When I have done the revert, I will attempt to find references for the new information. If so, I will add it back in. If not, I will list it here, and it is for the poster to provide evidence.--Rye1967 21:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I have now added in missing info from the AP article. I could not find sources for the following changed, and not included them
2006 age of 2nd daughter, Mamie Britton changed from 86 to 85
Dating of photo as being when Lizzie was 114--Rye1967 21:15, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Death

Just an early word, Ms Bolden passed away this morning (Dec 11 2006). → R Young {yakłtalk} 16:36, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Sad. I feel familiar with these notable people from constantly visiting their WP pages.--Rye1967 16:57, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Ah. Sad, but at least she lived a great life. Once you reach her age, you can basically die anytime. --RandomOrca2 19:53, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

It seems she was the last person born in the 19th century...--Nog64 01:37, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Nope: in 1890 (big difference). Extremely sexy 14:11, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] African Americans

Is Ms Bolden the oldest ever person of African descent? If so, should that be noted in the article? --Legis (talk - contribs) 16:56, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

No. See the Lucy Hannah article. Ryoung122 00:10, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
