[edit] Career overview
The first time Bartosiewicz appeared on a commercial music record was in 1990, when the album The Big Beat was released. Edyta recorded it with the band Holloee Poloy. It was hardly a commercial success, but it succeeded in catching the eye of music critics, who have noticed the singer's voice and charismatic position in the band. Edyta decided to quit the band after - as she said herself - very heavy resistance to her composing and songwriting style. She wanted to concentrate on a solo career.
The year 1992 saw the release of the debut solo album Love. It was sung entirely in English and received the Gold status after having sold 67 thousand copies. The album was also released in Western Europe by the Chrysalis Records, but wasn't noticed on this market at all.
In 1994, the album Sen was released. It was recorded with a completely new band and is sung mostly in Polish. The musical side can be described as variable. Sen was also the first one to have a promotional tour. Nine concerts were given in nine biggest Polish cities. The tour ended with a huge success, as well as the album, which received the Platinum status after selling over 300 thousand copies. Bartosiewicz herself has been announced the best singer by the readers of Polish magazine Tylko Rock, and the album's title song "Sen", still being one of her best known, has been considered the most popular.
By the beginning of July 1995, a new single "Szał" ("Madness") was heard on the radio. It was the first one to promote her new album, Szok'n'Show. Edyta considered it her most ambitious one, having recorded it with new ideas. Edyta visited 13 biggest Polish cities promoting the album. The record was an enormous commercial success - it was announced Platinum after selling around 280 thousand copies. The singer has received the 1995 Fryderyk Award, won the Best Artist and Tylko Rock magazine Best Album awards.
After two years of waiting, Bartosiewicz's fourth album, Dziecko was released, promoted by the widely known single "Jenny" and an another tour around Poland, as well as three performances in United States and Canada. The album was again awarded Platinum (200 thousand sold copies) and by the Fryderyk, for the best rock album. According to Polish magazine Machina, this album is the most honest one Polish rock music has ever seen.
1998 was the year when Wodospady, the singer's last regular album to date, was released. It's considered to be the most mature one. As opposed to her previous records, this one wasn't supported by a promotional tour. It sold 75 thousand copies and has been announced Gold. "Miłość jak ogień" ("Love Like Fire") was one of the singles from this album.
In 1999 Bartosiewicz decided to break up with her record company, Universal Music Polska. The compilation Dziś są moje urodziny ("Today's My Birthday") was a closing chapter of the contract.
Until then, Edyta has remained fairly silent. Aside from the 2001 single "Opowieść" ("A Tale"), the 2002 single "Niewinność" ("Innocence") was supposed to promote her come-back album, but it was never released. In 2004 Bartosiewicz recorded a duo with Krzysztof Krawczyk, "Trudno tak...(razem być nam ze sobą)" ("It's Hard... To Be Together").
Quite unexpectably, she appeared on the Festival of Magic Music, on 5 June 2005, on the Cracovian Market Square. She sang her two best known songs - Jenny and Ostatni. In September 2005, she took part in a performance celebrating the 10th anniversary of a Polish group Myslovitz.
