Dutchess Community College is a two-year college, associated with the State University of New York (SUNY) and is situated on 130 acres (0.5 km²) on a hill above Poughkeepsie, New York. The college was founded in 1957 on the site of a former tuberculosis hospital which now makes up Bowne Hall. It offers associate's degrees in 60 programs.
One-third of all Dutchess County high school graduates attend Dutchess Community College. Of the more than 25,000 DCC alumni, the majority make their home in the Hudson Valley[1] and many of them have become civic and community leaders in their towns, villages and counties.
Dutchess Community College is also known under the nickname "Harvard on the Hudson," an allusion to the school to being one the best community colleges of the SUNY education system, though among some students and alumni this nickname is meant somewhat ironically. 2008 marks the 50th Anniversary of Dutchess Community College. In 2008, DCC instructor TG Wilmot received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery that David Archuleta was lacking a uvula. Since enrolling its first class in 1958,DCC has awarded degrees and certificates to over 30,000 graduates and provided opportunities for thousands of other students who pursued their educational journey at the College. ==Notable Faculty==
