Dows is a city in Franklin and Wright Counties of the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 675 at the 2000 census.

Dows is located at 42°39′25″N, 93°30′8″W (42.656882, -93.502175)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²), of which, 0.8 square miles (2.0 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (3.75%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 675 people, 290 households, and 164 families residing in the city. The population density was 867.3 people per square mile (334.1/km²). There were 320 housing units at an average density of 411.2/sq mi (158.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 92.30% White, 0.89% Asian, 6.37% from other races, and 0.44% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.19% of the population.

There were 290 households out of which 21.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.2% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.4% were non-families. 40.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.21 and the average family size was 2.97.

In the city the population was spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 26.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $26,141, and the median income for a family was $35,156. Males had a median income of $22,386 versus $25,500 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,109. About 8.1% of families and 7.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.1% of those under age 18 and 7.4% of those age 65 or over.

Dows Community School was established in 1914 and provided public K-12 education until 1998. At that time the district began 2-way sharing with CAL Community School of Latimer. After 7 years of that arrangement the districts chose to break apart. In 2005 the Dows Community School District began a 10-year whole grade sharing arrangement with Clarion-Goldfield Community School District. Dows currently maintains a P/K-5th grade elementary school and sends grades 6-12 to middle and high school in Clarion, IA. Together, the Clarion-Goldfield/Dows Community Schools serve nearly 1,100 students in grades K-12. Clarion-Goldfield and Dows Community Schools

Dows has an annual celebration, Corn Days, that is observed every year on the first weekend in August. The celebration includes a parade, fun run, pancake breakfast, entertainment in the park, and free sweet corn! In 1980 Dows celebrated its centennial.
