[edit] History

Doutta Stars began playing football at Buckley Park in Essendon in 1946 and consisted mainly of returned soldiers looking for sporting opportunities. The team developed a sense of tradition that proved the basis of many successes and still continues to this day. The team still plays on the same oval 61 years later.

Cricket teams were added in 1967 and Buckley Park has been redeveloped many times over, but the basics are the same, a football club playing aussie rules football for the entertainment and enjoyment of themselves and others

Buckley Park Sports Ground now has a bowling club, tennis club, cricket and of course a football club, which all operates out of the same complex. As of September, 2007 there is set to be major renovations to the football club including new club rooms and a renovation of facilities.

[edit] Players

Over the period since 1946, the club has helped develop a number of champion footballers, several of them going on to play in the AFL. Significant, though its development of football champions is, the club is even more proud of the community champions that it has produced during the same period.

Today Doutta Stars have many senior and junior players. The club has teams in the EDFL including: A Grade seniors, reserves, Under 18's, Under 16's, Under 14's, Under 12's and Under 10's. In 2007 there was a total of 12 junior teams on various age groups and divisions, approximately there was 250 junior players for 2007.

[edit] Supporter base

Doutta Stars has one of the largest followings in the EDFL, mainly in the Essendon and Niddrie areas but extends right out to Avondale Heights and Glenroy. It is thought the reason for the large following is because the club is also one of the oldest, and is located in an older area of Melbourne.

[edit] Season 2007

[edit] Seniors

2007 was a disappointing year for the Doutta Stars senior club. There was a high expectation that Doutta Stars were a very good chance to be senior premiers, having been runner up the previous year, however due to multiple player injuries, the senior team only managed to have the under 18s in the grand final.

[edit] Juniors

Though the senior club had a disappointing year the junior on the other hand, had a very successful year. Over half of the total junior teams made it to the first week of finals, with many of those teams going on to the second week. In the end two junior teams made it into the grand finals, and they both won.
