Donovan Wylie

Donovan Wylie, born 1971 in Belfast is a British Photographer from Northern Ireland. He started photography in his teens and at the age of 16, he left school to pursue his photographic career.
In 1992, Wylie became a nominee of the Magnum Photos agency. Later that year, he traveled to Eastern Europe, photographing in Slovakia and Moscow.
In 1993, he moved from his home town of Belfast to London. During two trips to China, Wylie concentrated his work on the migration of peasants from the countryside, into major urban areas.
During 1994, he began to photograph a family of New Age Travelers in the west of England. In the following year, 1995, he completed a series on the passengers of the Moscow Metro and then travelled to Grozny, the capital city of Chechnya, documenting its inhabitants attempts to return to normality a year after Russian troops had invaded during the Battle of Grozny (1994–1995)
In 1997, at the age of 26, he became the youngest ever full member of Magnum.
Wylie has also worked with film, and in 2001 won a BAFTA for best new director for 'The Train', a film made for the UK's Channel 4 in 2001. Since 2000, Wylie has completed various photographic and film projects exploring the religious identity, history and the concept of territory in Northern Ireland & The Troubles, post-ceasefire.
Wylie's work is deliberate and technical. He is father to three sons.
