[edit] February 2007

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself, as you did with Sharathon. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. RJASE1 Talk 03:45, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Bekah Ferguson

An article that you have been involved in editing, Bekah Ferguson, has been listed by me for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bekah Ferguson. Thank you. RJASE1 Talk 03:53, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Just an additional note besides the above notice - basically you have to establish notability of the person - read over the page WP:BIO and obtain some reliable sources to cite in the article, or it is likely to be deleted. RJASE1 Talk 03:53, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
FYI, you can post your replies here - I'll watch the page. Anyway, if you know that there are sources to establish notability for the person, state so in the discussion page for the deletion and then source them in the article per WP:CITE. I know the notability criteria can be frustrating, but basically it's what keeps Wikipedia from getting flooded with spam and vanity pages. Just let me know if you have any questions. RJASE1 Talk 04:04, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
OH ok I think I understand. This will actually take me some pretty heavy research to put together; yikes  :) How long does the system generally give me? Thanks!! - Robbie
The discussion usually lasts five days - if you need longer, just so state on the discussion page. If worse comes to worst, the article can always be recreated after deletion. (You'll just have to do a deletion review, which is not hard if you've addressed the concerns from the original deletion.
Usually, when writing a new article, it's best to put it together in your user space before posting it on the main site. That way it doesn't get flagged for deletion before you're ready to have it torn apart by the masses. :) RJASE1 Talk 04:11, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Ok I'm learning  ;) Yeah that makes a lot of sense. Up until you messaged me, I didn't even know I HAD a user space  ;) OK so with regards to reliable sources; that seems to strike me as something for non-fiction authors. How does this apply to fiction authors? Or can you give me an example of how I might go about citing a "reliable source" for a fiction author such as Bekah Ferguson? Please let me know if I'm being a pain; I'm sure I can read the manual, but your help is appreciated. Thanks, Robbie.
WP:BIO explains it pretty well - you will need some reliable press sources to establish notability of an author (reviews, etc.). Also, when it comes to formats and templates, etc., WP:BOOKS will have some good resources. RJASE1 Talk 04:19, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
OK Great - thanks! BTW, I don't see an actual "reply" anywhere, so I have to keep going into edit. I'm going to read through all this stuff; I know it will take me more than 5 days because unfortunately I have to juggle this with work - but if the deletion can be held off for a bit, I want to try to get this together. Also; is there a way to MOVE the post out of the public area and just put it in my space for a the time that I work on it? Kind of undo what I did by my own ignorance about the way the system works? Thanks!!
Editing is the only way to reply here, unfortunately...anyway, just explain on the discussion page what you want to do and the admins will help (I'm not an admin, I'm just a janitor cleaning up vandalism). This page tells you how to set up your own sandbox in your user space to edit it. RJASE1 Talk 04:31, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
OK thanks for all your help. I'll try to do all this, hoping to "beat them to it"... but it'll be hard. If it gets deleted, I guess I'll just have to try again in the future, but this time make sure I'm prepared with properly formated articles. Thanks again for your help! I'll refer back to this conversation as I learn.  :) Cheers, Robbie

[edit] Proving notability

If reviews of either book have been published in a newspaper or magazine, could you please provide a full reference to the reviews (newspaper or magazine name, date of publication, page number, etc.) that in the article? If the reviews are available online, please include the URL. Similarly, if there has been a newspaper or magazine article about the author, that would also help establish notability. In that case, please provide a full citation and URL as well. --Eastmain 05:09, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

You say if "reviews" have been published; this is fine, but what about full stories about the author? They'll be easier to come by than actual book reviews. Will that be acceptible? Thanks!! --Djrobbief 15:57, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
That should be fine, also, provided the source is reliable. Also, I forgot to tell you yesterday to check out this for the page style and this for additional tools/templates/categories for writing biographies of writers. RJASE1 Talk 16:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
ok great - thanks. It's all coming together. What do I need to do to avoid the deletion of the topic while I work through all this? I regret that I didn't know about the sandbox feature in advance; I thought I could just start the topic and keep working on it as I went without fear of deletion; but my mistake - so what can be done to make sure I have just enough time to get all this together? It's a big deal of work, as you can guess. Thanks again! --Djrobbief 16:13, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Books at the Library and Archives of Canada

Canadian publishers are usually expected to send two copies of each of their books free of charge to the Legal Deposit office of the Library and Archives of Canada (formerly the National Library of Canada). It might be a good idea for you to do this. Please see http://www.collectionscanada.ca/6/25/index-e.html for more information about this. I don't work for the library; I'm just passing this along as marketing advice. --Eastmain 05:17, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Wonderful advice - thank you. I will see to submitting them to the archive, as well as obtaining some information about newspapers specifically citing Bekah's work. It will take time; but I'll get it soon! Thanks again. --Djrobbief 12:29, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
