[edit] AfD Discussion

Nobody cares about an abandoned shopping mall. Really. --Stellertony 19:31, Sep 19, 2004 (UTC)

  • Abandoned VfD nomination, but I agree with delete. Cool Hand Luke 05:39, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Of architectural or historical note? If not, delete. Average Earthman 08:59, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • It was the location of part of the car chase in the 1980 film, The Blues Brothers, and was already abandoned then. Here is a website on it [1]. Rmhermen 15:08, Oct 29, 2004 (UTC)
    • Then mention it by name there. Doesn't merit its own article. Delete --Improv 15:46, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
      • Did you see the part about "already abandoned then"? Read everything before you make a snippy comment. Mike H 09:38, Oct 31, 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete unless, prior to expiration of VfD, 24.163.130.181 or someone else makes it into a real article that shows notability in itself (not merely as a film location) and provides some interesting information. Note to 24.163.130.181: removing VfD notices does not have a positive influence on the VfD process. Improving articles sometimes does. [[User:Dpbsmith|Dpbsmith (talk)]] 16:32, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete: If someone wants to mention it in the film article, fine, but not as an article by itself. Geogre 18:48, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep. All malls are notable. And dead malls are particularly notable because they're dead. That's why people put up websites about them. This 800,000-square-foot mall existed for at least a decade. If we can have an article on Winnett, Montana, population 185, why can't we have one about a mall that was an important part of the lives of tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of shoppers? And, say, a thought just occured to me: Wikipedia is not paper!
  • Keep. It has factual info, and there is a real interest in abandoned malls (maybe not as big as the interest in ghost towns, but I digress). Furthermore, I'm from Harvey!! I know that doesn't count for much, but I just wanted to throw that in ;) I've got to pass that ugly thing every time I go to the west side of town. You folks don't want to see what shape it's in now....really, you don't. The Redbird 08:37, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
  • 'Keep. Important location. ShadowMan1od 21:35, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
  • Keep. After reading the Blues Brothers article I read on to this article. It's nice to have some background on the set of one of the most famous car chases in movie history. I feel the information in this article needs to stay, and stuffing it all in the Blues Brothers article would not be practical. By the way, how is it possible that such an informational article ends up being VfD material? What's Wikipedia coming to? Shinobu 18:02, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

End of deletion discussion. Feel free to edit beyond this point.

[edit] Chronology needs some cleanup

The chronology section needs a bit of cleanup, mainly on formatting issues. I tagged it for now, and will tackle it later when I have more time. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:48, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Cleaned. Tag removed. SchuminWeb (Talk) 05:49, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mall very much still there based on more recent reports

Turns out Dixie Square is still standing, based on this source, and that the "demolition" that was mentioned was not complete and total, but rather more ceremonial in nature.

I've gone ahead and fixed some bits of the article to reflect this, using this as a cite. SchuminWeb (Talk) 06:20, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion about the Turn Style logo

Since it seems most interest in Turn Style stems from the Dixie Square location, it deserves a mention here as well. We're discussing whether the logo shown as being used for Turn Style is the proper logo, and so please take a look and let us know what you think.

See Talk:Turn Style for the discussion. SchuminWeb (Talk) 02:59, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History and timeline sections

We presently have a "History" and a "chronology" section, which is redundant and undesirable. What's in the "chronology" section needs to be put into paragraph form and placed in the aforementioned "history" section. It is, however, going to take a bit of doing to make it work. SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:12, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Why NPOV?

Here's why: "The mall has been more-or-less left to decay ever since, due in no small part to a lack of funds (the blighted town of Harvey owned the property itself for the greater part of the last 25 years), political incompetence, general mismanagement and apathy." Well, that's relatively insulting to the whole town. "Blighted?" Seriously, "Blighted?" --Jnelson09 18:07, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

So why not just fix it, then? SchuminWeb (Talk) 18:15, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm not exactly sure how to re-word that. I just know what's there isn't right. --Jnelson09 18:32, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

I deleted "blighted" and made a few minor fixes. I took the bold step of removing the NPOV tag, hoping that the removal of "blighted" will go a long way. SchuminWeb (Talk) 20:52, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Better yet, I just deleted half the sentence. SchuminWeb (Talk) 21:13, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

That worked out well. --Jnelson09 03:53, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

I don't think either of you have been to Harvey before... it's a horrible, crumbling, poverty-stricken place with rampant unemployment and violent crime. I think the sentence should go back. Additionally, all of this has been covered in the press. The Parsnip! 17:36, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
The reason it was removed is because it was uncited and got challenged. If you can provide the press citations you mention, then it can go back in. SchuminWeb (Talk) 22:51, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay. The Parsnip! 00:14, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
I've added four references. The Parsnip! 00:27, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Well played! SchuminWeb (Talk) 01:26, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

OK, so they have a source for the term "blighted." Fair enough, am I right? --Jnelson09 02:57, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm fine with the term's use as long as it's properly sourced and it's not the opinion of one of our people. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:11, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
