Known for Divaldo Pereira Franco is a Humanitarian, medium and Spiritist speaker. He is called the greatest exponent of the Spiritism in the world today.(The Spiritist Review)

Divaldo Pereira Franco Humanitarian and worldwide renowned Spiritist speaker and medium. He has presented more than 11,000 lectures and conferences in more than 54 countries. As a Spiritist writer and medium, Divaldo has co-authored more than 200 books through psychography (also known as automatic writing), with more than 7.5 million copies sold worldwide. His books have been translated into 13 different languages. Born in Feira de Santana, Bahia, Brazil, on May 5th, 1927. He has been, for almost 60 years, a spiritual speaker and writer, having devoted more than 50 years to spirituality and more than 40 years dedicated taking care of the orphan children of Salvador, Bahia Brazil. On the 15th of August, 1952, he along with his cousin Nilson de Souza Pereira, established the "Mansao do Caminho (House of the Path)," an institution which has provided housing, education, and care for over 600 adopted children in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, through a system of foster homes.

Since his infancy, he claimed to be able to communicate with spirits.

When he was young, he was traumatized by the death of his two older brothers, so much so that he became sick. He was taken to several Medical specialists, none of whom could give a satisfactory diagnosis. Thereafter, he met Dr. Ana Ribeiro Borges, who persuaded him to take up the Spiritism. During his period of convalescence, he dedicated himself to the study of spiritism, as his health improved became clear for him that he was in the right path. His medical ailments belonged now to the past.

He moved to Salvador in 1945, to try for a position at the IPASE, an institute for the assistance of Civil Servants. He enterred on the 5 December 1945 as a clerk.

At that stage a fervent spiritist, he founded the CECR (Spiritist Centre of Redemption) on 7 September 1947.

Brazilian Spiritist developed its own characteristics. Focusing on the subject of moral improvement in their publications. Francisco Cândido Xavier and Divaldo Pereira Franco are some of the most popular mediums. (Leão, F.C.; Lotufo Neto, F.)

The Spiritism represented by Divaldo Pereira Franco was an official participant at the United Nations August 28th-31st, 2000, Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders. As a delegate Mr. Franco signed the Commitment that condemns all violence in the name of religion and makes a forceful appeal to all religious, ethnic and national groups to respect the right of freedom of religion.(WCRL)

After the disincarnation of the Brazilian medium Francisco "Chico" Xavier in 2002 at age 92, Divaldo became the most representative figure of the Kardecian Spiritism worldwide. Providing guidance about the ethical aspect of a proper medium's life to those developing mediumship,and those interested on the relation between pathology and mediumship.(Dobroruka 2005)

On March 12, 2004, Divaldo presented the seminar Understanding Spiritual and Mental Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, in Baltimore, shedding light on the subject with his Spiritist Knowledge. This event was Sponsored by the Spiritist Society of Baltimore in partnership with the United States Spiritist Council, the seminar had such a great impact that it was published as a book titled: “Understanding Spiritual and Mental Health”. The presentation was enriched with examples, which Divaldo showed how experiments performed by famous names in modern science confirmed many revelations from the Spiritism in the last 150 years, particularly the ones concerning consequences, to the individual, his/her negative actions, not only those practiced in the present, but also in the past. In 2006, as part of the U.S.Conferences tour Divaldo presented a Special Seminar with Raymond Moody Jr. MD, PhD, about "Visionary encounters with departed ones" and the "Spiritist therapy for those who stayed"

In April 2007, almost 300 Spiritists from 16 states gathered in Baltimore, U.S.for an historic occasion. It was the 150th anniversary of Spiritism founder Allan Kardec's spirit-dictated work "The Spirits' Book" and it was the first time a Spiritist Symposium has been held in the United States totally in English. Famous Spiritist medium, Divaldo Franco said in a greeting to the Symposium:

"We finally transfer the Spiritist knowledge to the American hands. A new Era has arrived." Until now, all Spiritist meetings were conducted largely in Spanish or Portuguese.[1]

At 80 years old Divaldo is considereded one of the most renowned Spiritist mediums (Globo-Salgusa)

His 60 years of work as speaker were recognized on April 21, 2007, during the celebration of 150 years of the Spiritist's Book. 15000 people got together in the Expo Center Imigrantes of São Paulo, Brazil.This event was sponsored by the São Paulo Spiritist Federation and the Brazilian Spiritist Federation.

  • "Medaille de Reconnaisance" from the Humaniste Institute of Paris;
  • "Medalha Camara Municipal de Leiria", Portugal;
  • "Medalha da Cidade de Lobito", bestowed by Government of Angola, Africa;
  • "Degree of Doctor of Parapsychology Honoris Causa" from Cyberam University in Illinois;
  • "Degree of Dr Honoris Causa from the University of Bahia", which was the first time a title of Doctor Honoris Causa was given to a Spiritist medium; and
  • "Diploma of the Order of Merit", a distinction given by decree of the President of Brazil to those who stand out at national level for their dedication and work in helping fostering the welfare of others.
