The Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities is a Directorate-General of the European Commission. The Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities has the task of contributing to the development of a modern, innovative and sustainable European Social Model with more and better jobs in an inclusive society based on equal opportunities.

It is the sponsoring Directorate for the 2007 European Year of Equal Opportunities for All.

The Directorate-General is organised into 9 directorates:

  • Directorate A: European Social Fund, Monitoring of Corresponding National Policies I, Coordination
  • Directorate B: European Social Fund, Monitoring of Corresponding National Policies II
  • Directorate C: European Social Fund, Monitoring of Corresponding National Policies III
  • Directorate D: Employment, Lisbon Strategy, International Affairs
  • Directorate E: Social Protection and Integration
  • Directorate F: Social Dialogue, Social Rights, Working Conditions, Adaptation to Change
  • Directorate G: Equality between Men and Women, Action against Discrimination, Civil Society
  • Directorate H: Resources, Communication
  • Directorate I: Audit, Controls, Evaluation

The Directorates A, B and C, are directly responsible to the Deputy Director-General.
