I am a Sami-American and social studies teacher living in the Minneapolis, Saint Paul area of Minnesota. I am a graduate from the University of Minnesota, with a Bachelor of Arts in History, and a licensed Social Studies teacher in the State of Minnesota, and soon to be licensed in ESL/ELL (English as a Second Language/English Language Learners) for the same. In addition, I am a certified paralegal and have worked as such for several law firms.
As a paralegal, I have done volunteer work for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (Bosnian War Crimes Tribunal) in The Hague, and have worked as Senior Page at the Minnesota House of Representatives for several years.
I'm also a Nordland boat builder, lavvu maker and an avid sailor and winter camper (-57F. Embarrass, MN 2/3/1995).[1] For Wikipedia, I can contribute and give an educated opinion, with sources to back it up, on the following (but not necessarily in this order):

In 1351 when the Black Death came to Norway, the country suffered in disproportionate numbers compared to the rest of Europe. In has been estimated that northern Norway suffered up to a 90% death rate from the Norwegain population. The reason for this high death rate has been suggested that the closed, cramped confines of nortrher Scandinavian housing and the movement of the fleas in flour barrels during the period. However, the Sami who were living predominately from reindeer durin this time, may have suffered little. Face with the loss of tax revinues from these vacant farmsteds, the Norwegain government invited the Sami to settle on the abandoned farms in an effort to get these farms back on the tax roles. It is from this point onward that the differing economic niche between the Sea Sami and the interior Reindeer Sami became firmly established.
