What is the French name for the dime (both officially and in common usage)? That would be a nice addition to the article. Funnyhat 23:10, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I don't think there's any special name, other than "un dix sous" or "un dix cennes" or "un dix cents", more formally "une pièce de dix cents". In other words, "a ten cents" or "a ten-cent coin". -- Curps 23:43, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Colour

I have an issue with the color. The colour should like the nickel, not the penny. I would change it now but its 1:00 in the morning local time and I dont know where I could get a better pic. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Canadian-coins.jpg for more details

The color couldn't be more wrong, unless it was purple, in any case it should be silver. Where do you find a bronze dime anyway? I would change it, but I just don't know how. Also whoever posted those pictures, come on.

I took and posted these photos of the dime. I realize the colour is very bad -- for some reason I just could not get the lighting right. The dime itself was of the normal colour. The reasons I uploaded and used these off-coloured photos are:
1. The previous photo was far worse. (Small and grainy and cropped out of the larger photo of all the coins, and only of the reverse).
2. I kept waiting for someone to upload a better photo, but no one would.
I thought my bad photos were a (small) step in the right direction. I strongly encourage you (or anyone else) to put in better photos. --thirty-seven 01:33, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

I have removed the color by converting the images to monochrome and applying a slight contrast enhancement (and adjusted brightness slightly). If this is not good enough, please feel free to replace. I say these are an improvement. If you need to do adjustments, use your original JPEG's instead (turn to monochrome and adjust color). Just 20 minutes I have had one American ask me about the color of Canadian dimes and asked if they were copper. He didn't even cite Wikipedia. I checked Wikipedia, and by golly, the dimes were copper colored. So I fixed it immediately as I did. Mdrejhon 19:10, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New image

I have uploaded new images of a 2006 dime which are much better quality. They need to be cropped/etc. Image:Cdn-dime-reverse-2006.jpg and Image:Cdn-dime-obverse-2006.jpg --RealGrouchy 02:02, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Is it possible that you take the photo without flash? Do you have a tripod? --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 03:58, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I did take a photo of it without the flash, but the lighting was very poor and the colours were dark and ugly. I deleted them after uploading this one. Sorry, no time to make/upload more. :( --RealGrouchy 02:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Cdn-dime-obverse.jpg

Image:Cdn-dime-obverse.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
