Is the Marquise a Frenchwoman? Otherwise I'm confused as to why her father would be fighting Russians in Northern Italy, since the only time that happened was in 1799, and they were fighting the French. john k 00:16, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

This story was supposedly an adaptation of an actual incident...Kleist changed the setting and the names to protect the innocent. 198.151.180.252 05:25, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I thought the Marquise and her parents were Italian. Why von Kleist gave her a French title, rather than a German or Italian one, I do not know. Would it have come from her first husband? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.144.57.0 (talk) 17:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
