[edit] Interested in an L.A.-area Wiki meetup?

It appears as though L.A. has never had a Wiki meetup. Would you be interested in attending such an event? If so, checkout User:Eric Shalov/Wikimeetup

- Eric 16:21, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

We never met here so this is an odd thing to ask. However I thought I'd ask if you could maybe look at the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God article I made. I basically just made a Babelized translation of the one from Portuguese wiki so I think it reads a bit weird. Although some effort was done since I started it--T. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Venetia.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Venetia.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 06:29, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Image:Venetia.jpg

I think fair use might apply in this case, but would you please make sure? Please get back in touch with me when you do so. Many thanks. Diamantina 11:07, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

If the photo was first published in 1914 (or at any other time before 1923), then it's in the public domain. --Carnildo 21:13, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
The photo was produced circa 1914 (it has been stated in books that the photo was produced circa 1914: judging from the style of Venetia Stanley's clothes, the style of photography and the age of Venetia Stanley, I agree with that assertion), but I do not know if it was published before 1923.
It is possible that the photo was published pre-1923 (e.g., newspaper stories announcing Venetia Stanley's engagement to Edwin Samuel Montagu in 1915). However, extensive research would have to be done to verify publication. This would be impractical for me to do. The only British newspaper of the period that I could gain access to with relative ease are microfilms of The Times, and I do not know if The Times published photographs in engagement and wedding announcements of its social section in 1915.
The photo of Venetia Stanley has been widely reproduced since the publication of Roy Jenkins' biography of Herbert Henry Asquith in 1964, which is where I first saw the photo.
More generally, if a work that was produced pre-1923 was not published until after 1923, does the work still fall in the public domain? Please advise. Many thanks. — Diamantina 22:30, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
For works created in the United States, unlikely. There are some other reasons why a work published after 1923 can be in the public domain, but "published before 1923" is reasonably absolute. A fairly comprehensive chart of what is and is not public domain in the United States is at http://www.copyright.cornell.edu/training/Hirtle_Public_Domain.htm --Carnildo 08:28, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of illegitimates

Dear Diamantina, thank you for the fascinating information you've placed on the "List of illegitimates" talk page. I've introduced a few items from it into the article. Would you consider doing me a great favor by putting in the rest of it?

I of course realize that the article's title may be hurtful to anyone affected by the phenomenon. If it didn't have that potential, probably there would be no need of such a list. Today we live in a "more vulgar" age which seems to attach much less concern to the formalities of how anyone came into the world. But a century ago things were different. Recent revelations, for example, show how it affected Albert Einstein who, though not himself "illegitimate," apparently was not married to his first wife when they had their first son.

My point in starting the article was to bring attention to how substantial a phenomenon it has been among persons of achievement, and to stimulate the sort of thought reflected in your comment on the talk page.

Yours truly, logologist|Talk 15:42, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your invaluable contributions to this article (including the addition of Marilyn Monroe and William the Conqueror!). For years, when reading biographical articles and books, I had been struck how often this element occurred. I'm sure that, with time, many more names will be added. Another aspect for exploration might be the effect of this phenomenon on the individual's family of origin (as in the case of Einstein), and on the family that he himself may establish. I would be curious whether sociology has explored the subject much. Thanks again! logologist|Talk 00:56, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Phaëton complex

Your information about Maryse Choisy's Phaëton complex has been deleted by User:Griot from the List of illegitimates. I hope you will consider placing this interesting information, along with more as available (including the origin of the term, "Phaëton complex"), into a new article on the Phaëton complex, and perhaps also a brief summary of it into the article on Illegitimacy. Choisy's concept would seem to merit a complete article of its own. logologist|Talk 21:45, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] {{unblock}}

I keep getting blocked — this is the second time this week. I think it's because I use AOL and lots of people — including vandals — share the same IP. By the way, I could not find the currently blocked IP that I am using (207.200.116.134) on the block list, even though I used the search button and the "Find in Top Window" function chez moi.

¡Socorro, por favor! Please help! :-) — Diamantina 19:00, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
