The text says she sits on a lion, but in the picture she's sitting on a tiger. What's the deal? --Angr/tɔk tə mi 19:54, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Changed, sorry I made a mistake, because in Hindi and other Indo-Aryan languages, although there are different words for lion and tiger, there is a common word generally used and I got mixed up. DaGizza 19:56 15 September 2005 (UTC)

The article on Shiva says parenthetically that Sati "is another form of Devi", yet Sati is not included here in the list of aspects of Devi.

A couple of typos fixed by yours truly. (Signed: Asafoetida of Finland)

I do not support the merger suggestion that Devi and Lalitā be merged because Devi is a somewhat generic name for the divine feminine in general, while Lalitā is a very distinct goddess in her own right, identified with Devi in the same manner as Parvati and other major goddesses. The cult of Lalitā has distinct practices and scriptures. The articles on many of the goddesses are so poorly sourced at this point that they probably should be cut back to stubs and redone from the ground up. Sati is another good example of a poorly-understood variant. She is generally considered an incarnation of Parvati in the myths that surround her. Buddhipriya 09:35, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Another point. Devi and Shakti currently cover three distinct concepts. Devi covers feminine of deva and the Supreme Mother Goddess. Shakti also covers Mother Goddess as well as the generic meaning for power. GizzaDiscuss © 09:43, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Gizza make a good point regarding the use of the term shakti as an abstract noun. It is also used as a generic iconographic element in art (an example being the generic use in some Ganesha materials). Has anyone systematically tried to add a category tag to all of the Hinduism articles that potentially would need to be worked on as part of a "Devī Project"? I am not in favor of creating such a project because our ranks are too thin, but I am curious which articles may be out there. Buddhipriya 22:19, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Quality Scale Rating change

As the article has atleast "a subheading that fully treats an element of the topic" as well as "multiple subheadings that indicate material that could be added to complete the article" I have rated the article as 'Start' class instead of 'Stub'. Shruti14 (talkcontribs) 15:14, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Okay, but it seems that you making a point on quantity, not quality. The quality of the article is poor at the moment, which is a shame. Listy, unencyclopedic tone along with no sources. GizzaDiscuss © 07:48, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
