Deutsch Jahrndorf is a town in the district of Neusiedl am See in Burgenland in Austria.
The easternmost community in Austria, Deutsch Jahrndorf is within a few kilometres of the borders of both Hungary and Slovakia. During the Cold War (so, from shortly after World War II until the end of the 1980s) Deutsch Jahrndorf was the easternmost community in Middle Europe with a Western, market economy. It lies farther to the east than all of the former East Germany and is farther east than parts of both Poland and what was then Czechoslovakia, all of which were then behind the "Iron Curtain".[1]
