Talk:Detroit Yacht Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is a lot more to say about the DYC. My parents were members there in the 1960s when I was a child. The DYC was a segregated club well into the 1960s, and as it is in the middle of the largest park in the city of Detroit, which even then was predominately Black, this caused a great deal of anger in the city. This policy was changed at some point, I assume.
Interesting the other major club on the island, the Detroit Boat Club, slightly smaller but no less opulant, is esentially abandoned.
I'm not sure but I think the DYC may have suffered a near death experience as well?

- Correct -- the club has some controversy linked to it, which would be appropriate to include, but only if properly documented. Meanwhile, the article draws a lot of wording directly from the DYC site, and the copyvio needs to be addressed. Perhaps some current DYC member or enthusiast will do the honors of rewording so as not to be in violation? DavidOaks (talk) 19:40, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
