Derker
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Derker is a locality within Oldham, in Greater Manchester, England.
Derker is located next to the Greenacres, Higginshaw and Mumps areas of Oldham.[1]
It is the location of Derker railway station and, said by some to have terraced residences "unsuited to modern needs", is currently being redeveloped as part of the Housing Market Renewal Initiative.[2] This has been controversial and has been opposed by some local residents[3] who have lobbied Parliament to protest at the demolitions[4]. The local MP Phil Woolas has also opposed the demolitions.[5]
Derker was recorded as a place of residence in 1604 with the name Dirtcar.[6]
