Delwar Hossain Sayeedi

Dilawar Hussain Sayeedi (often commonly referred to as Allama Sayeedi), is an Islamic orator and politician, a former Member of Parliament (MP) in the Jatiyo Sangshad, and one of the most prominent leaders of the Islamisc Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, a primary member of the former ruling coalition Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government.

Sayeedi was born into a prominent business and Zamindar family of Sylhet in 1942. He was born into a Syed family tracing their roots back to Imam Ali , son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad. His family was prominent as spiritual and religious leaders in Sylhet District. Sayeedi completed his religious education at the Binori Town Madrassa in Karachi , Pakistan. He is fluent in Urdu , Bengali , Arabic , English and Punjabi. He is also a Hafiz-e-Quran.

He was found guilty of election fraud in September 2003 as widely reported in the Bangladesh media.

At a public meeting on 23 March 2003, Sayeedi called for "blood tests for journalists to see if they are Muslims or not", as documented in the Reporters Sans Frontieres 2003 Report.
[edit] International campaign against Sayeedi
There has been a widespread global campaign against Sayeedi by concerned activists, including Bangladeshi Muslims. He was put on a US government no-fly list (see NEW AGE, March 16 2004 given his alleged links to global extremist groups. There were major campaigns to block his visas to enter several countries to preach, including to Canada (2004) and UK (2005, 2006).
