Delaware Township is a township in Pike County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,319 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 45.7 square miles (118.3 km²), of which, 44.0 square miles (114.0 km²) of it is land and 1.7 square miles (4.3 km²) of it (3.63%) is water.


The Dingmans Ferry Bridge, the last privately-owned toll bridge on the Delaware River and one of the very few left in the United States, is located here. It connects Delaware Township with Sandyston Township, New Jersey. It is operated by the Dingman's Choice and Delaware Bridge Company, chartered in 1834. (It is based on the Pennsylvania side of the river, and is thus not considered part of Sandyston.)

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 6,319 people, 2,244 households, and 1,748 families residing in the township. The population density was 143.6 people per square mile (55.4/km²). There were 3,453 housing units at an average density of 78.4/sq mi (30.3/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 95.20% White, 2.15% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.85% from other races, and 1.20% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.78% of the population.

There were 2,244 households out of which 42.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.2% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% were non-families. 18.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.19.

In the township the population was spread out with 31.2% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $46,263, and the median income for a family was $49,070. Males had a median income of $41,158 versus $26,366 for females. The per capita income for the township was $18,661. About 5.2% of families and 6.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.9% of those under age 18 and 5.6% of those age 65 or over.
