EWA wrestling article incident

I apologize for the incident a few days ago. Thank you for your words of advice on my talk page. I plan to make beneficial contributions to this encyclopedia. (Jtbizzle63 05:15, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

Don't worry about it - I'm glad to see that you've decided to become a constructive editor. :) --DearPrudence 05:18, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Gail A. Riplinger article

We are new here, "newbies," as the 'rules for citations about living persons' calls us. We did not know how to 'fix' the error-laden article about Gail A. Riplinger. The 'rules for living persons' reveals numerous breaches in the article. No date of birth is allowed if the person wants it removed (identity theft), public records should not be cited unless cited by a reliable secondary source (hence the confusing of identities which occurs in the article), and "no original research." Tabloid style prevails and this is a no-no for the rules for living persons. The rules say, "...reverting someone who is trying to remove libel about themselves is a horribly stupid thing to do." We would prefer that there be no article on Gail A.Riplinger. (Forgive us if this is the wrong way to communicate. We don't know another way.) Thank you for your time and interest. Signed, Gail A. Riplinger and friends —Preceding unsigned comment added by Debbieandjim (talkcontribs)

Thank you for commenting. I have now rewritten the entire article and backed up each statement, so please feel free to have a look and notify me if anything appears incorrect. Following this policy, I have removed your exact date of birth, although the policy indicates that it is preferable to include a birth year if possible.
As you are a notable subject, I'm afraid the article cannot be removed; however, you may contact Wikipedia about the issue if you are really concerned.
Feel free to ask me any more questions you may have. --DearPrudence 07:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

DearPrudence, I have fixed the article and given sources to document the repairs.Thank you for your help. The formatting seems to have changed. Any help you care to give to fix the page formatting will be appreciated. Gail Riplinger (linguisticsclass)

DearPrudence: Apparently, the same Riplinger supporter keeps coming on here and vandalizing the article. He removed the entire Controversy section even though it had rock-solid references to back it. He also came in and undid the edit to his comments that you had done. Is there a way to deal with vandals like this? I am about to report him to his ISP for abuse. By reversing what you have done for this article, he is now fighting with Wikipedia's guidelines and administrative decisions, which is something not to be tolerated on Wikipedia, correct? Thank you. (I posted this on the article's talk page and on here, in case you see it here first. Thanks!) FannyMay 16:56, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I wouldn't report them yet, as this appears to be their first offence, but I have posted a warning on their talk page and will keep an eye on their edits. --DearPrudence 18:03, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Help with "Michael Coyle" article

I am not sure this is the place to do this, I am new to Wikipedia, but I want to thank DearPrudence for all the help and very thoughtful editing of the article on composer Michael Coyle. Your contributions have been very valuable.

Zarplod

Thank you. :D I'm glad to help out. --DearPrudence 20:28, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

With regard to Michael Winner article

You reverted my change of 'ambitious' insisting that i changed a spelling to be incorrect. 'Ambitious' is the correct change, which i implemented. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Haribo2k7 (talk • contribs)

If you are 82.19.85.172, then I was reverting your edit that changed "ambitious" to "ambiitious". --DearPrudence 19:40, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I see what's happened here. The spelling in the article was originally "amibitious"; you accidentally changed it to "ambiitious", which I saw as a typo without checking the previous spelling. I've changed the spelling to "ambitious" now. --DearPrudence 19:42, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Susana Ferrari Billinghurst

Hi DearPrudence! I'm translating the spanish wikipedia biography of aviator Susana Ferrari Billinghurst. You marked some faults in my translation. Please, I need some english speaker to help me to correct it ! How is it possible ? There are not many lines to correct. Thanks, —Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniels77 (talk • contribs)

Hi! Sorry for the delay. I've fixed up the article. There are still a few minor things that need to be done, but it looks fine now. --DearPrudence 21:24, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

What are you doing?

Why did you do this? I'm talking to the guy. --- Who's the one you call Mr. Macho? The head honcho, swift fist like Camacho 23:04, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Your edit contained the word "faggots," which, although not directed specifically at another user, is offensive. However, upon considering the talk page guidelines, I'm not entirely sure that I can remove this sort of thing. I will replace your message unless I find a rule somewhere that supports my earlier removal of it. Sorry for any confusion. --DearPrudence 23:14, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
I didn't talk about anyone on Wikipedia, and I didn't name any names. It's also his talk page, if he doesn't care about profanity on his talk page, then he doesn't care. It's not the talk page of a Wikipedia article. Honestly, this is going a bit too far. --- Who's the one you call Mr. Macho? The head honcho, swift fist like Camacho 23:36, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
It may not have been directed at anybody, but it is still an offensive word. As I said, at the time of my edit, I thought it was against the rules. Now I am not sure but am looking into it. --DearPrudence 23:43, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
But it's MY talk page, does Wikipedia allow people moderating editor's personal talk pages? Also, it's just a reference of thought really. Does it really need any substantial inquiry? => Harish - 23:22, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
In certain cases, yes, Wikipedia does allow editing of other users' talk page comments. However, as I said, I am not sure now if I was correct to do so in this case. I am looking into it. --DearPrudence 23:43, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Alright, I have cleared this up. Offensive language is not censored unless it is a personal attack (or blatant vandalism). --DearPrudence 23:51, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I wouldn't have minded this as much if you would've told me that you reverted my edits, or you should've just crossed the offensive word out, but not revert my edits and not even tell me what the hell is going on. --- Who's the one you call Mr. Macho? The head honcho, swift fist like Camacho 00:37, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I thought it was self-explanatory. --DearPrudence 00:53, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
No, you said it's vandalism. Being offensive on a talk page is not vandalism, it can be considered trolling, being uncivil, etc., but not vandalism. --- Who's the one you call Mr. Macho? The head honcho, swift fist like Camacho 02:55, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I used the incorrect terminology, my mistake. --DearPrudence 03:05, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
All right, it's cool, I'm glad we had this ish sorted out. Props for asking someone else about this, and not being stubborn like most other editors. Peace out. --- Who's the one you call Mr. Macho? The head honcho, swift fist like Camacho 03:12, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, and I'm glad I ended up looking it up. --DearPrudence 03:25, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
