[edit] About Barraclough

DCI Grace Barraclough usually appeared alongside her CID colleague Detective Chief Inspector Vikesh Dasari, as part of the storyline surrounding the death of Tom King. While investigating the murder at Home Farm during the immediate aftermath, she instantly suspected Bob Hope especially after he confessed. However it transpired that he was only doing this to protect his son Jamie.

She then started to date Carl King in secret, as a honeytrap. They ended up in bed together and arranged many secret rendevouz. All along they knew that if the relationship was discovered Grace could lose her job, but she seemed willing to risk that, until colleague DCI Vikesh Dasari caught her kissing Carl and gave her an ultimatum; to end the relationship or he would go to her boss Vaughan and her career would be over. (Vaughan was already angry with the DCI after she failed to get a conviction on the King case, complained about the cases which followed and messed up the chance he gave her to get her career back on track, giving a speech at the 'Long Service and Good Conduct Ceremony'.) Knowing what she must do, Grace ended the affair, telling Carl that it was 'just a bit of fun'. But clearly her feelings ran deeper.

After Grace ended the affair, Carl told his brothers what had happened between them, and they sent him to Europe to get over her. In the meantime, she seemed to be getting on fine. But when Carl waltzed back into her life on his return, it did not take him long to seduce her again. However she then tried to end the relationship. But the following day her mother suffered a stroke, and she regretted being so hard on Carl when he refused to be a shoulder to cry on. She then began blanking his calls; and later in the week, when Carl read of her mother's death in the paper, he resorted to waiting outside first the police station and then Grace's home in order to get her to speak to him. It finally worked, but she confessed that the first time they had had a drink together, she had followed him and was trying to entrap him to find out information about the murder of Carl's father. Grace and Carl finally worked through some of their issues and their relationship was back on track.

All through the relationship, right up until Grace's mother's death, both Carl and Grace had been fighting for the upper hand. But her mother's death made Grace realise that she really cared for Carl, and wanted something more than the 'bit of fun' they had previously been having. This gave Carl back the power in the relationship, and he wasted no time to abuse it, blowing hot and cold with Grace immediately and making her doubt their relationship almost before it had restarted.

Grace died on 27th September after being hit by a lorry after Carl admitted to her that he was the one that killed his father.
