David Zwirner Gallery
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Zwirner Gallery in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City is one of today’s leading art galleries, known for the careful long-term career management of some of the world’s most important and emerging artists, including Luc Tuymans, Neo Rauch, Raymond Pettibon, On Kawara, Lisa Yuskavage, Chris Ofili, and Marcel Dzama. New additions to the gallery include the 2006 Turner Prize-winner Tomma Abts, Adel Abdessemed, Francis Alÿs, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Yan Pei-Ming, and R. Crumb. The gallery was founded in 1993 in SoHo, and was one of the last major galleries to move from gentrifying SoHo to Chelsea.
In addition to the Chelsea space, which expanded to 30,000 square feet in 2005, David Zwirner heads Zwirner & Wirth, where he focuses his energy on secondary market sales, as well as the representation of the estates of Fred Sandback and Al Taylor. 2008 marks David Zwirner’s fifteenth year as a dealer.
His wife is interior designer and handbag designer Monica Zwirner, one of the founders of MZ Wallace.
His gallery space and house were both designed by German architect Annabelle Selldorf. [1]
