David J. Lieberman, PhD, is a bestselling author famous for his books dealing with psychology, such as Never Be Lied To Again, Get Anyone to Do Anything : Never Feel Powerless Again--With Psychological Secrets to Control and Influence Every Situation, Instant Analysis: How to understand and change the 100 most common, annoying, puzzling, self-defeating behaviours and habits, Make Peace with Anyone: Breakthrough strategies to quickly end any conflict, feud, or estrangement, How to Change Anybody, 2005, St. Martins Press, NY. His most recent book is You Can Read Anyone: Never Be Fooled, Lied to, or Taken Advantage of Again" 2007 (New Jersey: Viter Press).
As their titles indicate, Lieberman's books offer quick solutions to psychological and interpersonal problems. His books are short with many divisions and subsections.
Lieberman is heavily influenced by the work of Milton Erickson, Robert Cialdini, Paul Ekman, Elliot Aronson, Judson Mills, Stephen Worchel, Jack Brehm, Stanley Milgram, and Ray Birdwhistell.
Though he is the creator of the short-term therapy Neural-Dynamic Analysis, he is more interested in giving people techniques they can apply in business settings and in their one-on-one relationships with other people than he is in propounding any particular psychological theory. He seems to draw many of his ideas from neuro-linguistic programming and from behaviorism.

You Can Read Anyone is divided into two sections. The first section offers various techniques for finding out what anyone is "thinking and feeling in any situation or circumstance." The second section presents a method for predicting the behavior of other people based on a high self-esteem / low self-esteem typing system. He argues that people with high self-esteem are more likely to do what's right and are focused on long-term goals. People with low self-esteem, he says, are more self-absorbed, more likely to do what feels good in the moment, and more likely to distort reality. If Lieberman equates low self-esteem with depression then his idea that individuals with low self-esteem distort reality has been challenged by researchers, including Dr. Shelley Taylor.
Lieberman lectures around the country. He has appeared on The Today Show, Fox News, PBS, The Montel Williams Show, and The View.
