David Hocking
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Hocking, a Christian Bible teacher, was born in Long Beach, California in 1941, and raised in Southern California. David Hocking is recognized as one of the preeminent church leaders in the protestant, evangelical movement of Southern California, in the past 40 years.
At the height of his popularity, Hocking pastored one of the largest churches west of the Mississippi River, Calvary Church of Santa Ana. His preaching was featured on the radio program, the Biola Hour during the 1970s and 1980s. Friend and foe alike consider Hocking as a dynamic preacher, speaker, and student of end-time prophecy and dispensationalism.
Particularly impressed with Hocking's biblical preaching is Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa who invited Hocking to join staff as a Bible teacher after his ministry at Calvary Church had come to an end due to a sexual scandal.

David Hocking received a B.A. in Bible, Greek, and Ancient History from Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC. He then received an M.Div. from Grace Theological Seminary, which is located in Winona Lake, IN.[1] and D.Min. from Grace Graduate School (an unaccredited school of his church, now defunct), and Ph.D. from California Graduate School of Theology, (also unaccredited).
[edit] Pastoral Ministry
During the 1970s, Hocking was the Senior Pastor of the historic Grace Brethren Church [2], which is located in Long Beach, CA. He gained a following as the host of the Biola Hour radio show. Hocking was noted for his dynamic in depth expository Bible teaching.
[edit] International Affairs
David Hocking was staying at the East Jerusalem Hyatt hotel, on October 17, 2001, across from the hotel room where Rehavam Zeevi, Israeli Minister of Tourism, was staying, when he was assassinated by PFLP terrorists. Hocking was quoted in the BBC news as having heard a thump, and screams from Zeevi's wife, when Hocking rushed to assist Mr. Zeevi. [3].
[edit] Current Ministry
Hocking continues to minister through his Hope for Today Ministries located in Southern California.
Hocking's brand of pro-Israeli premillennial and pretribulational eschatology is considered controversial to some Evangelicals, in particular to those Evangelical Christians who hold to both Postmillenial and Amillenial eschatological views.
