Dave Van Horne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dave Van Horne

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dave Van Horne, a native of Easton, Pennsylvania, is a Major League Baseball announcer, the lead radio play-by-play voice of the Florida Marlins on the Marlins Radio Network.

Van Horne spent 32 years of his career as the voice of the Montreal Expos, but left in 2000 over the fact the Expos did not have a radio contract in place for the 2001 season. He then joined the Florida Marlins. He broadcast the first Expos game at Shea Stadium - New York, in 1969 and became an institution to Montreal Expos fans across Canada and left an indelible mark on the sport scene in Montreal. He projected excitement in his signature call "up, up and away" as the likes of Rusty Staub, Andre Dawson and Hall of Famer Gary Carter belted out homers. Other career highlights would be Bill Stoneman's 2 no-hitters, Charlie Lea's no hitter, Dennis Martinez' 1991 perfect game against the Los Angeles Dodgers (where he said, "El Presidente, el perfecto!"), the very exciting 1979 & 1980 seasons, when the Expos finished 1 and 2 games behind eventual World Series winners Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies respectively. Perhaps the highlight of his career in Montreal was broadcasting the 1981 National League Championship Series between the Expos and the Los Angeles Dodgers. In an ironic twist, Dave Van Horne would broadcast the last Expos game in Montreal from the Marlins broadcast booth in 2004.

In Florida, he broadcast his first World Series victory in 2003. Dave continues to be the lead voice of Florida Marlins Baseball team in 2007.
