A referendum on the amalgamation of the states currently governed by the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority under the Darfur Peace Agreement will be held in July 2010, after general elections in 2009 will have been held. The inhabitants of Darfur will decide whether to merge West Darfur, North Darfur and South Darfur into a single Autonomous Region of Darfur, which would have its own constitution and government, or whether to retain the current structure, where Darfur is governed through three states of Sudan as administrative entities.[1][2]
