Darband Cave
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Darband Cave is located in the Western Alborz range and contains the first known evidence for Lower Paleolithic cave occupation in Iran. A collection of lithic artifacts and faunal remains was collected by a group of Iranian archaeologists from the Center for Paleolithic Research of the National Museum of Iran and ICHTO of Gilan. The site probably dates back to the Middle Pleistocene period.
During Mongol attacks some of Sangesari people took refuge and lived in the cave. There are beautiful limestone formations in the cave.
