Danny Farrant

Danny Farrant (born in Weston-super-Mare, England) is the current drummer in the legendary British punk band Buzzcocks. He joined the group following Phil Barker's departure in 2006.

As a schoolboy, Farrant was a member of a short-lived New Wave group called Safreak - a name that was culled from a half-erased piece of graffiti. After leaving Safreak, a subsequent band appeared in a "Battle of the Bands" style competition on BBC TV's Going Live, they did not win the contest. Disillusioned with music, Farrant stopped playing for two years and took a job on a West Country mink farm. He took up the drums again after witnessing a fellow-worker being severely mauled in a mink cage. These experiences inspired his solo albums, 'Minky Business' (Furball Records, 1992) and 'Northern Vole' (Moleskin Music, 1999).

Farrant also plays guitar, bassoon, sackbut, keyboards and trellis. Through the 1990s, he frequently played jazz and blues with the groups of Leo Green and Dominic Green. A feature of these shows was Farrant's performance of falsetto soul vocals, in the persona of 'Little Danny Farrant'. Capable of holding his breath underwater for two days, Farrant has also played drums for The Alarm and Spear of Destiny. At that point, he was a Cockney, but has since been cured. According to Buzzcocks singer Pete Shelley, Farrant learned thirty songs in two days when he joined the band. [1]
