Daniël Theodoor Mensch (born in October 4, 1978 in Sliedrecht) is a Dutch athlete who won the silver medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics for rowing as a member of the 8-man Dutch rowing team. He is also, as of 2005, a sixth year medical student at the Universiteit Maastricht.
He began rowing in 1997 as a member of the Maastrichtse Studenten Roeivereniging Saurus (Maastricht student rowing team) and, in his second season on the team, the Olympic Development Program of the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Roeibond (Royal Netherlands Rowing Association) selected him for the Dutch national 8-man student team. In 2000, he was, along with the Dutch team, selected as World Champions at the FISU World Championships in Poznan, Poland.
Mensch's professional career did indeed begin in 1997, however, it was on the shores of one Loch Doon in Donegal, Republic of Ireland that his real talent for rowing took shape.
