[edit] Academic Background
(2001-2005) Graduate of Beloit College with a B.Sc. with departmental honors in Physics & Astronomy with a minor in Political Science.
(2005) Summer student at Argonne National Laboratory doing calibration work for an experiment on the β-delayed α spectrum of 16N.
(2006 - present) Graduate student in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at McMaster University, located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. I work under Dr. Alan A. Chen doing experimental nuclear astrophysics, with work concentrating in 20 < A < 40 proton-rich explosive stellar nucleosynthesis, and in particular the rp-process in X-ray bursts. The topic of my thesis is 30S(α,p), and so we are currently collaborating with a group at RIKEN to produce the requisite 30S radioactive ion beam.

[edit] My interest in Wikipedia
There are many reasons I am interested in contributing to Wikipedia. I use Wikipedia myself, and found that, in my field of research, many articles are either very sparse or entirely absent. So, I felt that this was a good way to give back to the community by editing articles on subjects which I can claim to have some expertise. I am also a proponent of free information, from the GPL to the GFDL, and this information can only exist when those with access to the information are willing to provide it free of charge. Further, writing about subjects forces one to organize one's thinking in a logical and accessible manner, and so it seems fairly impossible to write about any subject without learning more in the process.
