I deeply appreciate your work here, but please read biographical articles before sending your bot to make changes. The article on Robert Boyer (artist) clearly states more than once that he died in 2004. He is not a living person. ---Mumun 21:05, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure how you can have seen it in recent changes as it does have a bot flag, thus please deblock it. It's listed on the bot page and Special:Listusers/bot, please check those first. -- User:Docu

...if only bcz it's reassuring (even if no less embarrassing), now that i've caught onto my mistake, to see that i was far from the only one enthusiastically editing in crap! I don't even regret checking its thoroughness on mine, before seeing that it worked from an alpha list, bcz i suppose that "penance" on my part was a good exercise toward responding, next time, to that nagging uncertainty abt which is the format. Hope you'll keep up the good work.

Thanks for updating all those links to the GNIS. One thing: {{gnis}} shows the page name — including disambiguation — unless you add display text: {{gnis|000000}} shows as USGS GNIS: D6, while {{gnis|000000|InsertNameHere}} shows as USGS GNIS: InsertNameHere.

So, I fixed {{gnis3}} to correctly point to Antarctic GNIS entries. I've rewritten {{usgs-gazetteer}} (a reference section for Antarctic geography articles) to use {{gnis3}} if the Antarctic ID is known.

Here's a challenge for you: there are thousands of stubby Antarctic articles that use {{usgs-gazetteer}}. Can D6 both look up the ID in GNIS and modify the article to use that ID? This is so daunting, I certainly don't want to do it by hand.

Thanks for the information and the suggestion. I might look into this. If the full list is available, an intermediary solution would be to use a switch in the template to provide the id, e.g.

I'm just trawling through the stub templates, trying to get some standardisation, and came across this - would it be difficult to drive it off the stub categories? Just a general query (although it would remove a tiny bit of complexity for me), as I'm thinking about whatlinkshere tags (for other reasons) as well. Rich Farmbrough, 08:57 28 September 2007 (GMT).

Not sure how it would be much of a problem for standardisation of the rest of the content of the stub template. I use it to generate Portal:Switzerland/New articles. If there isn't much demand for that list, I could discontinue it. -- User:Docu

It's a manually assisted bot-edit. Why would it be problematic? User:Jonathan Potts seems ok with it. -- User:Docu

"By convention your user page will usually not be edited by others." Speaking for myself, I'd rather be allowed to fix ambiguous links on my userpage or let them stand at my own discretion. --DocumentN (talk) 08:06, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm quite cautious about it and, Jonathan Potts seems ok with it. If he had written, "I live in Atlanta, Georgia" is likely he would want it to be fixed to "I live in Atlanta, Georgia".

If you have a spare moment you could try pointing your bot at List of lakes in England, List of lakes in Wales etc. The thought of doing it manually is daunting ! Velela (talk) 16:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

For now it's doing articles with {{Infobox lake}}, but I may try a few subcategories of Category:Lakes later. BTW WP:AWB offers a module to do the tagging as well. -- User:Docu

Hi there. I see this bot created all those "YYYY births" and "YYYY deaths" categories. Is it possible that you set the bot so that it operates on the Macedonian Wikipedia? The templates are working fine, which means everything the bot has to do is create the cat's with the appropriate template and add the interwikis.
