Seeing as one of the members went on to be quite famous, I think this is a perfectly notable article. Shinyplasticbag 03:11, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

I'll quickly second that. Chris 18:32, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
This article is absolutely notable. There are Wikipedia articles for bands that are a lot less relevant than Commander Venus. Even though they are now broken up, they are an important band in that they were the forerunners of what is now a highly prevalent movement in contemporary music. Saddle-Creek is huge, one of the most well-known indie albums, and the band that started it definitely is worthy of an article. Granted, there isn't a lot to be said on the subject; if it were plausible to combine it into another article, I would support that. But there is no single article it could be consolidated into, since it was comprised of members of many other bands. So logically it must remain its own article. [edit] But...

Didn't Freddie Mercury head a band once? God knows he's famous, but I don't see an article on the Hectics, and I imagine it would be up for deletion if it existed. Twin Bird 21:47, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Fair point, however, the Hectics accomplished next to nothing, especially in contrast to Commander Venus who arguably single-handedly spearheaded the burgeoning independent music scene in Omaha. It was upon the reputation of bands like Commander Venus that the Saddle Creek label earned its own reputation and notoriety, and Commander Venus (along with other bands on Saddle Creek) played an integral role in dictating the climate of a specific brand of indie rock, brought to the masses by Cursive, the Faint, and Bright Eyes. Furthermore, to dismiss Commander Venus as simply an embryonic forerunner to the success of Bright Eyes and Cursive is to deny the more than two full albums of work that the band put out. This is all without mentioning the fact that neither Cursive nor Bright Eyes (Bright Eyes especially) share all that similar a sound with Commander Venus. Well that's my several cents. I apologize for being long-winded, but it just seemed odd to me that Comm.Venus would be considered unworthy of a Wiki page when there are so many other pages dedicated to far less significant figures. :) BOne 05:04, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AND..

Commander Venus are very much a band in their own right. Check the prices their music sells for on eBay! Two albums, one of which has now been repressed ; they deserve a wiki page! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 158.143.166.88 (talk) 10:18, 3 March 2007 (UTC).
