Comasteridae is a family of crinoids. These animals can be distinguished from members of other families by the position of the mouth: In comasterids the mouth is offset from the centre, while in other crinoids the mouth is centrally placed. Comasterids prefer shallower waters than most other crinoids and often form the dominant component of the crinoid fauna at depths of less than 50 m.
