Colorado Symphony Orchestra

The Colorado Symphony Orchestra is an American orchestra, based in Denver, Colorado. The orchestra was established in 1989 as the successor to the Denver Symphony. Currently, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra is the state’s only full-time professional orchestra. Each season, the CSO performs a 21-week Masterworks series of classical programs, as well as Pops, Family, Holiday and Summer Parks concerts, to approximately 200,000 patrons. Most performances are held at the Denver Performing Arts Complex in Boettcher Concert Hall.

For 12 years, Marin Alsop was the orchestra's music director, and is now its conductor laureate. During her tenure, the CSO gained increased recognition on both the regional and national levels, and made a number of recordings for the Naxos label. In April 2004, the CSO appointed Jeffrey Kahane, music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Santa Rosa Symphony, as the ninth music director in the 82-year history of the Denver and Colorado Symphony Orchestras. He officially took over as music director in 2005. In January 2008, the orchestra named Douglas Boyd their next principal guest conductor, for an initial contract of 3 years with 2 weeks of guest appearances per season.^[1]
