[edit] Can of SPAM icon?
If I were to put a picture of a can of SPAM in the template, would that be wrong? Pacific Coast Highway 02:47, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- I don't know, but I find these pictures funny [1], [2]

[edit] Format
I was messing around with some different formatting for the template because I didn't like the line breaks in the current version. Users' screen resolutions totally skipped my mind though, and I found the current version actually looks a lot better with a smaller screen, while this version looks better with a larger one. Still I thought I'd throw this up here anyway.

[edit] Moved documentation
Hi, I've started the documentation in the Template:Cleanup-spam/doc subpage, as recommended in Wikipedia:Template doc page pattern. Please edit the template to:
<div class="messagebox cleanup metadata"> {| style="width:100%;background:none" |width=60| |This article or section may contain spam.<br /><small>Wikipedia spam consists of external links mainly intended to promote a website. Wikipedia spam also consists of external links to websites which primarily exist to sell goods or services, use objectionable amounts of advertising, or require payment to view the relevant content. If you are familiar with the content of the external links, please help by removing promotional links in accordance with Wikipedia:External links. (You can help!)</small> |} </div><includeonly>{}</includeonly><noinclude> protected template <!-- Add cats and interwikis to the /doc subpage, not here! --> </noinclude>
Thanks. +mwtoews 05:06, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Done. --CBD 12:05, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Spam
I think it would look better if the image was a tin of spam.
[edit] Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict
The above code should be changed to this to be valid XHTML 1.0 Strict:
[edit] Add <<<1|article or section>>> param
Editprotected
Please replace the snippet
This article or section may contain
with the standard[3]
This {} may contain
This way, we can make specific calls such as section
or article
, and else the template defaults to its current display. Thanks. — Komusou talk @ 22:18, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Done. Cheers. --MZMcBride 00:33, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Amount of text in template
There's some irony in the fact that the spam template is quite big on the page, with three or four lines of text in it. Is there really a need to give a full definition of what Wikipedia considers spam, when we already link to WP:SPAM? The template seems just as clear if we cut "Wikipedia spam consists of..." and "Wikipedia spam also consists of...". --McGeddon (talk) 12:43, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Given that it's been a month since I said that, I'll propose a changed wording and see if anyone has any feedback, before requesting an editprotected replacement. --McGeddon (talk) 10:11, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Current wording:
This article or section may contain spam. Wikipedia spam consists of external links mainly intended to promote a website. Wikipedia spam also consists of external links to websites which primarily exist to sell goods or services, use objectionable amounts of advertising, or require payment to view the relevant content. If you are familiar with the content of the external links, please help by removing promotional links in accordance with Wikipedia:External links. (You can help!) |
- Proposed replacement:
This article or section may contain spam. If you are familiar with the content of the external links, please help by removing promotional links in accordance with Wikipedia:External links. (You can help!) |
