[edit] Impalement arts

Did you just write this from scratch? If so, it is brilliant! One contribution, and it is this?! Or did you copy it all from somewhere? Perhaps another article on Wikipedia? J Milburn 22:00, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

That would explain it then! That is possibly the best first article I have ever seen. I think you deserve this-
The Exceptional Newcomer Award
Awarded to Circusandmagicfan for possibly the best first article, and certainly best first edit, I have ever seen- impalement arts. Keep it up! J Milburn 16:23, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome

I agree with J Milburn, that Impalement arts article is a very impressive start! I highly recommend that you join the Magic WikiProject when you get a chance, as we could really use your help. Also, just as a tip, please try to create a userpage as soon as possible. Getting your name to show up as blue instead of red, will be A Good Thing. Again, welcome, and if I can offer you any tips on finding your way around Wikipedia, please don't hesitate to ask! --Elonka 19:25, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Magic WikiProject

My recommendation is that if you want to make changes to the WikiProject, go right ahead.  :) In my experience, WikiProjects on Wikipedia have vastly different amounts of participation. On some, the talkpages scroll on a daily basis. In others, they're effectively ghost towns. If you want to make a potentially controversial change, then I'd recommend posting your intention on the WikiProject talkpage first, and seeing if anyone comments. If no one's said anything in a few days, then proceed. As for getting minds together "en masse," that's usually only done in the cases of controversial decisions where participants are having trouble agreeing. In that case, a "Request for Comment" can be filed. But if no one seems to care, then WP:BOLD should apply. Meaning, go ahead and do what you think is best. If anyone has trouble with it, you'll hear about it soon enough. If it turns out that once there's actual attention on the issue, that the consensus is to do something else, it's fairly straightforward to undo any changes. --Elonka 21:18, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

  • If you want to revive the project, go right ahead. I'm currently involved in articles about forensic science, so I don't have enough time to spend on magic. I indeed started the project. :) Since there's not enough people actively working on the project, abandoning the COTW is probably a good idea, but that doesn't mean it needs to be deleted. If at some point there's more interest, it's easier to bring it back if it's just kept as a historical archive. - Mgm|(talk) 11:35, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Username

Hi, I saw on your userpage that you weren't thrilled with "Circusandmagicfan," so I thought I'd let you know that it's possible to get your name changed.  :) In previous eras this was a time-consuming process that could take several weeks, but lately I hear that it's more streamlined, and should only take a week or so. For details, see WP:USURP, and let me know if you have any questions.  :) --Elonka 03:25, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding edits to Impalement arts

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Circusandmagicfan! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \bmembers\.aol\.com\/.+, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 09:03, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Target girl

Hey! Very impressed with your edits at Target girl, just to let you know that I removed the stub template, the article seems to be developed enough that it is not needed now, of course thats not to say that you shouldn't add more, it's always nice to see articles extended. Once again, great work! --NigelJ talk 08:14, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Photo query

What did you want to know? I have an @yahoo.com e-mail address which should be easily discernable from my Wikipedia ID. Breakdown 08:56, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Debbie McGee

Thanks for supporting me on removing the in-joke from Debbie McGee. I've replied on the discussion page and asked if you could make a further edit. — Paul G 14:09, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

Hi. Could you please refrain from adding the unncessary parents categories to the English Magicians category. Where possible, all articles under "British Magicians" should be categorised into English, Scottish, Welsh and N. Irish Magicians as they are more specific. Only article that have no details of exact place of birth should be placed in the British Magicians category. Thanks

172.142.134.237 21:57, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

It is difficult to accept that you can come in as an anonymous user and edit in this way without explanation of your actions - you make no reference to any policies or guidelines and have not posted any reasoning in talk pages apart from the above - which reads as a blunt instruction rather than a reasoned argument. I note your statement about "English", "Scottish", "Welsh" and "N. Irish categories" but I disagree that they are preferable. There was already a detailed explanation for retention of the "British magicians" category at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Magic. Unless and until there is a satisfactory counter argument to that reasoning I am reverting your edits. It would be better if some sort of debate could be conducted on the WikiProject talk page which could produce some sort of consensus.
Circusandmagicfan 07:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Circusandmagicfan

The sub cats were already in place. You have, without consensus as far as I'm aware or any real reason, moved everything out of the English Magicians cat whilst leaving the Scottish and N. Irish cats. Why is that? Why have you singled the English cat out? It isn't a redundant category, and as far as I'm aware it is agaist wiki policy to depopulate a catogry without prior consensus. If you look at any categories on Wikipedia, for example, British painters, British guitarists, British chefs, there are all sub cats within them for English, Scottish, Welsh and N. Irish. If you were familiar with Wikipedia you would be aware of this.

I have posted at the WikiProject talk page. Can you please take this argument there.
Circusandmagicfan 14:09, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Circusandmagicfan
For reference/general information I have posted the following on the Magic project talk page in relation to the anon IP referred to above.
Following further investigation I believe someone using anon IPs is behaving in a way that is possibly a subtle form of vandalism and/or trolling and possibly also trying to insert a POV (maybe for political reasons?). All the IP addresses involved begin 172 and are traceable to AOL.
As far as I can tell the latest bout of activity began on or around 15 April when the anonymous user went into at least one article and replaced existing consensus descriptions and catgorisations with "English" (without edit summary or other explanation). This then led to the series of events in the previous posts.
I have also found that a user with a similar AOL IP vandalised at least one magic biography in January this year. Obviously this isn't conclusive evidence that it was the same person who inserted the "English" POV, because AOL is a big ISP with a lot of users. But it does illustrate why anon users who want to engage in tit-for-tat reverts should sign up and get a full ID - ie. so we can see their edit history and get some assurance that they are constructive editors and not habitual trolls or vandals.
Circusandmagicfan 12:30, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Circusandmagicfan
The anon user seems to be back and up to his or her old tricks, including a bit of dissembling (see Talk:United_Kingdom/Archive_11#Nationality). Circusandmagicfan 07:58, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Circusandmagicfan

[edit] Spoilers

I'm not sure you're aware of it, but there's a massive discussion about spoilers ongoing on MFD and the mailing list and it looks like at least the non-specified ones for fiction are going to be removed and/or deleted. It might be a good idea to make it project policy to have a magic secret confined to its own section in case the magic spoiler tag ends up deleted too. - Mgm|(talk) 10:16, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Morgan the Escapist

It has been suggested that the article Morgan the Escapist be deleted from Wikipedia, because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, please contribute to the Articles for Deletion discussion discussion. Please do not remove the AfD tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. .

gorgan_almighty 09:23, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

I've reread my comment several times and don't see how I'm being harsh or hypocritical. The only cited reference in the article is her "Escape Key" profile, which appears to have been written by Morgan. I searched both Google news and Newspaper Archive and found 0 articles. Nor did any of the 22 pages google actually brings up qualify as a usable reference. If I can't find a single source for proof of her notability, how am I being harsh? The article has been tagged for over 4 months. Find usable references and I'll be happy to change my vote. I put out significant effort to find them myself and failed.
Not engaging in what, by your own admission, would be a retaliatory Afd was a good idea. The first qualifier in WP:PORNBIO is "Performer has won or been a serious contender for a well-known award" which Sasha Knox is documented within the article as meeting. Horrorshowj 00:33, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sawing a woman in half

I really like the edits you've made. That article really needs a picture. You wouldn't happen to have a non copyrighted one, would you?Czolgolz (talk) 14:36, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RFC: Removal of magic methods - what next? More input please!

Hi! As someone who has taken part in the RFC in Project Magic, I thought you ought to be aware that it looks like a consensus is being reached, and it is probably now just a case of dotting the i's and crossing the t's. If you could pop over to the discussion and add your thoughts, that would be great. StephenBuxton (talk) 12:53, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

As there have been no objections to the draft guidelines I created a while back, I have taken the bold action of making them the current guidelines. You can view the change here. If you disagree with the revised changes, or have any further comments on the change, please feel free to raise it on the project talk page. Thank you. StephenBuxton (talk) 11:37, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
